Foriegn aid has a long history in somalia from colonial times to our first 2 presidents and of course Siad Barre (which played a huge part in his downfall) to our current situation. We recieve billions of dollars in aid and are by most metrics the 1st or second most corrupt nation on earth it is a recipe for disaster. The leaders of somalia have no incentive to help somalia since they can make millions off of foreign aid money while the average somali never sees this money as seen by the funds that were suppose to help flood victims disappearing. The status quo is favorable to the top of somalia because they get more aid money. I can think of two solutions the international community needs to realize that trickle down aid does not lead to results as seen by the last 30 years and start investing in communities projects rather than corrupt politicians. Or two stopping aid all together since it does not help the average somali and will help politicans be less corrupt (maybe we can get 5th most corrupt) and will allow the international community to stop meddling in our affairs. What are yall thoughts?
