Political science lol. A girl I know did International Studies before getting a masters in urban planning and she's doing well for herself. So I was wondering if anybody else is doing this?

I've worked for both Municipal and federal government but I would like to try something different. I'm looking at various masters degrees. Another one is public health.

Public Health consultants is in very high demand and you will get good pay, urbanism and landscaping sounds good too but it's not the same as public health in terms of employment prospects if I were you check out statistics on pay in your profession and county.

Urban planning is a very important job, especially in developing countries and economies. There will be endless work for you in Africa. It's just building your initial portfolio that's important. Make sure you do a good job the first couple of projects.

Also get acquainted with 3d modelling software like Revit, Sketchup. You can build towns, cities, etc in the virtual world before the real one.

tldr, I think it's a good choice.

I would suggest you play this game called “city skylines” it would give u an idea of how cities and neighrrhood are planned before construction.

Sounds a good degree for Somalia. As economy grows and Somalis became more civilized, they will want good looking cities and this know-how comes in handy. With that said, if you will be staying in the west, the competition will be fierce for related jobs and others who are white might always get the job ahead of you.

I would do something technical or science related.

I am certain half of many towns in Somalia WILL BE RAZED TO THE GROUND when they get serious about modern town look(20 years from now perhaps and am being positive). I agree. There will come a time, when somalis will get serious and want their cities to look beautiful. That's when they'll search for urban planners, architects, engineers etc.

That is the hope saxib. Even as it is, they compete building personal homes that are well designed. What is missing is good tax collection system and good stewards to put that generated revenue to good infrastructure use. There is the talent, and the wealth can be made, but there is no strong arm of the law that forces any Somali willing to rock the boat to get in line and respect society. Farmaajo and Co are the start in MUQDISHO, hope it gets better from this Inshallah.

In the mean time, We need to get READY for the future since we have opportunities here in the West.
