Illustrative DNA

There are at least 3 upcoming studies with Ancient Egyptian genomes I am aware of, some of which include data from Old Kingdom Egyptians from Middle/Upper Egypt. In terms of studies of modern Egyptians, I haven't heard of any coming up, but I have seen many Egyptian genomes now on G25 from various regions of Egypt, both Coptic & Muslim.
I take it you're a Copt? Given the low SSA and Levantine

One of the studies has a release date before the end of this year, I believe the one with Old Kingdom DNA has a 2025 release date, but the leaks on what the genomes look like have been out for a while so I don't expect any surprises.

I think regional variation is often exaggerated in the Egyptian context tbh, beyond obvious outliers the broad ancestry is often the same with whatever regional variation variation that exists being only a small % of the total ancestry of the people in question.
The 2025 picture is the Natufian-like PCA position profile, no? I am curious about the Hyksos paper. I hope some of the upcoming studies are in Upper Egypt, best not too early or close geographic reach as in earlier samples available, otherwise, they would disappointingly match the already published ones.

When I mean diversity, I mean the internal axes of pre-existing components in range distributional frequency and their variation within those parameters. I don't believe for one second that a place like the Sinai and the people in Upper Egypt match completely - laying bear a regionally comprehensive sampled picture will be valuable because you can glean internal regional flows from that, as well as through the patterns some deeper stochasticity can become processed, and possible "external" ones. You can already see there exists a considerable range of Levantine-like ancestry within Egyptians fluctuating widely. No matter if you think parts of this are extrinsic or intrinsic (of course, depending on time), it is valuable to see how that can carry the pattern of geographic context. I have never seen any evidence of a sedentary population with no meaningful characterization of geographically dependent substructure, especially in such a large population.

For example, if you check Italy, Northwest Africa, China, Germany, etc. you see it. This, of course, is informed by the historical behavior of the groups in question but the truth of the matter is, you see the intra-mosaic regional compositions and I don't think Egypt would differ in showing manifold of recognizable processes, although I don't doubt it will have its character and things we can learn about the unique topography defined demographic complexity through various time transects even from the modern context indicative of assortment pressures. That's why despite the cool work of the G25 available, a robust study with the indulgence of sample size is very much needed.

Remember the study I posted here years ago about the pharmacogenetics of the Somalis from Puntland? What was the reason they were not made into coordinates, or was there ever an attempt? I think the genotype data was published. The individuals were not extracted from other pre-existing database sampling storage units, so it would be valuable if they could be converted.

It is significantly more Natufian enriched than the Iron Age Egyptians we currently have, but its clustering is slightly misleading as from what I understand the Older samples are Levant N + Natufian, with minor amounts of Taforalt, Dinka, and Seh Gabi C ancestry.

I have also heard interesting leaks about the Hyksos samples, mainly that the Hyksos were Megiddo/Alalakh MLBA like. From what I understand, the Egyptian samples we have today are basically Old Egyptian/Pre-Hyksos Egyptian + Northern Levantine represented by Megiddo/Alalakh like ancestry.

Don't expect much SSA ancestry as from what I am hearing, basically all of their samples are quite low in SSA and they have sampled both Upper & Lower Egypt from Old Kingdom to Roman periods.

I do agree that you would certainly find a geographic, cultural & religious cline of relevant ancestries in modern Egyptians & that a study would be useful I just don't think any such study will be coming anytime soon, which is a shame.
