If in 1977 the Somali army had marched straight to Addis Ababa and avoided taking all the minor towns in Galbeed would they win?

There were Somali military units stationed on the other side of Adis, ready to sack the city, when the WARSO alliance ordered Somalia to pull back. That was after Somalia was offered to keep Somali Galbeed, and halt the war, but they refused only to be forced to retreat. More soldiers died on the retreat than the war.

You should look at E. Honecker's account of the negotiations along with declassified KGB documents on the war.
Could you give them to me bro?

Difficult but possible. The Ethiopian army was initially worried that Somalia would go beyond Ogaden, actually we did that since we occupied Harar. Obviously Somali would have encountered several problems if they tried to go for Addis. First of all the Russian and Cubans would have intervened earlier than they did and with moor troops and air support from the Xabashi. If it was seriously just somalia vs Ethiopia though I think we would have been able to reach Addis but at a great cost of human lives. Anyway our goal in 77 was securing and liberating Ogadenia, not going to Addis Abeba

how could they have? If Addis is threatened then there is no way to bring troops in

Before we invaded we should have taken an aerial reconnaissance of the region and geolocated all the Ethiopian bases in Galbeed and their airfields outside the region. First we should have started with Bombing out their airfields. Our ground forces were being massacred by the Cubans & soviets because our Air-force was weak and not capable of supporting them in the war.

The Mistake of sending our National Military was a major issue. We should have continued supporting the Wslf and advising them to hold positions near the Baali & Haraghe mountains. Wslf could have been a guerilla group like the Taliban that could have survived and adapted into the mountains and waited out the storm. Somalis were too impatient and ran straight into a giant serpent. Thus ended our quest of liberating the Ogaden region.

We should have conscripted every single male between the ages 18 and 40 and forced them to fight on the front lines.
