I say we need to push all the way to Harar. In the case of total war, it’s going to be anarchy and if Somali militias get guns and arms from other qabils or the gov we could push to reclaim Harar and the neighboring towns.

The only way would be if the Oromos were too busy fighting the Amharas over Addis Abba, and then Somali militias rush and capture both cities while they were distracted. Otherwise it'd be next to impossible

I don't think the Qabils would be able to unify on such short notice, and the fact that the Oromo population is much larger would make it even more challenging

Tbh it would be worth it if Somalia was a strong and functioning state. That is arguably the most important city in Somali history

Although majority of Ethiopians would first go to other neighbouring countries (that are stable) we’ll still be fucked. I don’t think Somalia has border control, if high numbers of refugees pour in because of the collapse, then the first thing you should expect is a rise in crime. It’s more harm than good in our current state and I don’t think Ethiopia collapsing is a scenario that’s likely to happen.

Aside from joking, on the bad and good side, the bad is because it will bring with it the Oromo to the country and the people have not even exploited the country’s wealth and the state has no sovereignty and on the good side it is Ogaden but under colonial rule and they will not be under Abyssinian rule

Harar is basically the capital of Hararghe, if you have the city, you have the region in your hands.

If Ethiopia collapses again, like it did in 1991, the Oromo will be tempted to reconstruct it like the TPLF/Tigray reconstructed it. The TPLF could have opted for secession, and handed the reins off to the Amhara/Oromo. But they could not resist the temptation of running Ethiopia and chilling in Addis. As a result, their people experienced a genocide 8 years after the death of Meles.

If Ethiopia collapses, the Oromo will be face with a similar choice: let Ethiopia go the way of the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia, or put it back together and rule it yourself. I am sure that the Oromo will try to put it back together as they will see losing power as unlikely due to them being the largest ethnic group.

Never underestimate hubris.

That’s only the Ethiopian Afars, Djiboutian Afars are docile and mix heavily with Issa/Dir. In a generation or two we’ll be seeing Afars as just another Somali clan.
