Yeah that's true or they just brush with caday Somali. But I personally don't think it's effective in todays time with all this colouring in foods. Plus we're smoking and using sugar which makes things worse

In Minnesota they advertise teeth whitening like they advertise tooth paste. u can go to the dentist at your lunch hour and go right back to work. Literally every day there is a commercial about it.

I dont need it because i DONT drink coffee and i have never drank the river water from somaliland that make your teeth golden

You know our prophet(SAW) used to brush his teeth and tongue with those cadayo. He had an amazing set of teeth too, he would brush his teeth before every salah, as it was good etiquette. It's not a sunnah though, but it's good to follow in his footsteps as it's simply a beneficial action to do.

I remember reading a hadith that the prophet(SAW) would have made it sunnah for his ummah to use the miswak before every Salah, but feared that it would be too burdensome for us. Let me go and find it.

Here they are:

Yeah but the prophet wasn't exposed to smoking, sugar, sweeteners and colours

I don't think there's lack of toothpastes in Somalia... well the colgates to be specific apart from Reer miyi/baadiyo.. anyone ca get access to them:samwelcome:

Yh because those are things that a person doesn't need. Even if those things were all present in his times, He had the forbearance and discipline to not indulge in them, do you? You can cut out the smoking (if you smoke), cut out the sugar somehow, especially in Shaax(this one might be hard because we're Somalis lol) etc.

Yeah that's true but people their are not serious about oral care. Even going dentist there they will charge you an arm and a leg for consultation from some creepy china man
:damn:

I'm a social smoker, I do indulge in a lot of sugary drinks and cuunto. But even orange juice can be corrosive to your teeth

Never knew there were different types, I remember reading that some somali woman used to brush her old husband teeth and somehow straightened it by the continuous use of the caday.

I also remember reading some colonial post about how Somalis were men of great stature, and pearly white teeth and who constantly had a stick in their mouth (the long thin somali caday) to brush their teeth with.

Yh I'm trying to cut down on tea, sugary drinks and all that nonsense. I don't know where your from, but some 1 - 1.5L bottles of water are cheap (like 45 -59p) compared to the sugary refrigerated drinks (500ml) in Tesco, UK. They are usually not refrigerated though.

You smoke?! It kills your teeth,:gucciwhat:

"If you smoke, do not smoke while whitening. If you have to smoke, smoke with your whitening trays covering your teeth. Try not to drink coffee, tea, or cola without using a straw"

One weird sh!t I heard was that back home, people who chew khat used to eat a lot of sugar when chewing. Wtf!!!:cryinglaughsmiley::cryinglaughsmiley::cryinglaughsmiley:

Is the khat that much distasteful that they had to eat it with some teaspoons of sugar:ftw9nwa::ftw9nwa::ftw9nwa:?

No so there's a sweet that was just a rock of sugar can't recall the name.

But some chewers were being inotivate and used to break some to into the takhsin as they chew back home.
Apparently it made the taste more tolarable.

I've even heard people suggest chewing with milkshake to me before,
:noneck:

Ronald's Mcdonald would've been proud lol
