I know what I suggested above is very sensitive to many and they view the idea of uniting/or establishing an alliance with a country like Ethiopia to be very offensive the least and an outright treasonous concept. Many Germans, British and French people had such views when their leaders first suggested and did the unthinkable to bring these waring nations together through a common market and a security alliance. It is also true that Brexit and the Alt Right in France and other powerful European nations want to exit the E.U, but none of them has so far suggested wanting to exit the security union of NATO. The union has brought vast economic growth and the notion that the major Europeans powers will fight against one another has dissipated. In a nutshell, one can validly argue that the major reason of creating a union in Europe was to put a stop to their never ending wars and it has been achieved successfully. Once this HOA union materialises, we (including the territories we claim in Kenya and Ethiopia) will be part of a bigger domain. The new picture that emerges will be one that all governments are required and expected to spend their budgets on improving the lives of their citizens, rather than buying arms and creating a strong army. As we have witnessed, this will only bankrupt the nation, be exploited by foreign powers as proxy wars, empowers the emergence of strong dictatorial leaders who require our absolute allegiances or we will face their wrath. The HOA region is a basket-case, where corruption, poverty, illiteracy, child mortality rates and unemployment are the highest in the world. We can't feed ourselves, treat our sick, educate our children and employ our youth. To overcome all these ills,, we need to be brave enough and think out of the square. We should build bridges that unite us to improve our lot. Only we, as HOA citizens can change our predicament. To do so requires a genuine reconciliation, an attitude of moving forward and a desire to unite for a better and brighter future. This may not happen in our lifetime, but we can set up the foundations required such an idea to succeed in the future.
