Between different subclades of M and L. Can't really say which one is dominant. I think they're all pretty equal.

I wonder if it would be the same for someone with a different haplogroup? Would they have the same near East or more sub saharan? Or have I understood it wrong?

I notice a bunch of people like to discuss DNA of East Africans so i thought i would share my experience.

I live in the USA where 23&me was doing free DNA test for Africans of certain countries and Ethiopia was one. I went ahead and sent my sample and i received my result.

I was
68% East African
30% North African
0.3% European
the rest was unknown

I was a little surprised because of the old adage, we can name our ancestor up to 7 to 8 generation back and none of them were non-Ethiopian. etc. I told my parents the result and they were very surprise and wanted to do a test of their own and there result were pretty similar to mine.

My father has more north African admixture and my mom's was almost identical to mine.

The website allows me to connect with my relatives so i went ahead a connected with both my parents be cause it would allow me to see where i got my certain admixture (P.S this is pretty boring if your parents are the same background)

Here is the reason i started the thread. After i connected with my parents a few days later i received a message that told me there has been an update on my ancestry. When i opened it my percentage has changed all of a sudden to

84% East African
12% North African
0.7% European

My parents result like wise changed and they became more East African aswell. I say all of this to say I think the DNA the second time around was more accurate then the one before. It was clear they did not have enough sample for East Africans and were giving us higher North African then they should be.

I feel like people who are doing the DNA test thing should really take it with a grain of salt and don't form a whole identity around this crap.

They only use markers specific to these East African groups so why would it matter?
Had Habesha been a reference sample in its entirety, we would be getting 100% EA.

They should remove the Habesha and Maasai from the East African category. Sorry, but these groups have too much West African and Semitic ancestry to be in the group.

This is why the numbers are so messed up.

but my west African ancestry was 0.5 % and why would having that DNA exclude us from that geography
