Really?!? Because all of my Somali and Berber family have small flat behinds and every branch of my ajnabi side has butts. That includes the maadow, Native American and caadan sides.

It is rare. It’s not a good bad thing. It’s rare because 1. Culture clash. Somali culture is extremely different from even other African and Muslim cultures. Other Africans have told me that they think Somalis are weird . In retrospect, an African American is way more comparable with a Puerto Rican or even some white ethic groups, like Italians than a traditional Somali person. 2. Bantu features are considered unappealing in Somali culture.

My mum described her marriage to my dad as an interracial marriage in all but name. That’s how alien their mindsets were and my dad’s “Americanized” . My mum only got a pass as being able to marry my dad is because of her family’s status and having acceptable looks aka her nose wasn’t too wide & nice hair.

You reckon they would feel more comfortable with a Puerto Rican? As an outsider, I think that African Americans get along the best with White Americans because their cultures are so intertwined. They have more in common with each other, culturally and historically, than they have with recent immigrant communities. Is that offensive?
