Government Spokesperson: Farmaajo will stay in office until a new leader is elected

MOGADISHU (HOL) - President Mohamed Farmaajo will stay in office until a new president is elected, government spokesman Mohamed Moalimuu has said as the opposition demands the president steps down to pave way for a transitional body.

Moalimuu told BBC Somali Service the resolution passed by parliament last October ensures there is no power vacuum even when the term of the president lapses.

"There is a resolution previously passed by the parliament which articulates that president and the lawmakers will stay in office until new leaders are elected,” Moalimuu said.


The spokesman was referring to a resolution jointly endorsed by the two houses of parliament in October which dictated that ‘parliament and other constitutional offices’ will remain in office until the election of new lawmakers.


The Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC) said Monday they no longer recognise Farmaajo as president and called for the formation of a National Transitional Council to oversee the elections after the Federal Government and regional government leaders failed to reach a deal last week.

But the international community has warned against any parallel process and demanded the resumption of talks.

What I meant was, what the op wrote literally did not make sense. Rebuttal (to the accurate statement that AS have made gains and Farmaajo is weak in security in xamar ) is not 5 lines about where you were born or where you ayeeyo lives. The answer is providing counter facts or at least well formed opinions.

I mostly agree.

But I also think it was a good move to keep Kenya at bay ( the costal conflict), and make better relationship with Ethiopia (even though they’ve since isku dhex yaaceen). That he’s working on rebuilding the SNA which is one of the only way somalia can really get out of this instability.

We know the opposition will not do a single thing better. The Norwegian ngo worker was in power all of 24h when he signed over specialist gas exploration to his home country Norway in a deal that will make him the richest man in Somalia but probably no one else. Norway is an anti Somali country who is also chummy with Kenya (ensuring they get that gas no matter through who). It’s not a bad thing to make deals on natural resources but it was all so very shady. This random man from random Norway, parachuted to power and immediately signs them numerous things.

Sheikh Sharif ...I don’t think I have to go into why he’s useless. I met him once, asked him direct questions about his plans, and walaahi I’ve seen quraanjo with more vision and sincerity.
