The difference being that the instability and violence is compartmentalized in Ethiopia.
Somalia (federally controlled) and Ethiopia are not on equal footing. Addis did feel safer than Mogadishu as a visitor, it’s not some conspiracy by the west.
Ethiopias political and economic centre is pretty stable
I don't disagree but still the last few years in Ethiopia have been wild. The level of violence and butchering is way worse than the peak of clan violence in the early Somali civil war or anything that we ever had since.

Both. Somalia is certainly is getting better but at a very slow rate while other countries are getting worse fast.
I prefer somalia to get better slowly as slow as it needs to be because the slow progress is best, all the other countries get better faster than somalia because they rely on other countries and then they will never be able to become self sufficient like the west african countries who are basically still being colonised by france

The federal ethiopian government in Addis Ababa is still very powerful even if it does not control all of its territories, the tigray war showed this. None of the rival and/or regional government and movements like Fano, OLA and even the now divided TPLF can on their own compete with Abyie even in their own home region while that’s not the case with the FGS

Ethiopia is also federally controlled but otherwise its by no means more stable politically or economically. Its currently experiencing worse conflict than Somalia not to mention. Its economy is more or less fake.

There is truth to that, the point I am trying to make is that Ethiopias capital is/has been more or less stable and it makes all the difference.
Ethiopia, like a lot of other African countries has their political/economic activity concentrated in one city; Somalia has been like that since/during independence ...with Xamar. The same way Somalia officially fell into chaos with the 'fall of the Kacaan' in Xamar even though there was war in many different parts of the country during the 80s.
A comparison would be if Cairo would 'fall', egypt as we know it would no longer exist, they will trot their way into becoming a failed state. Egypt is Cairo as Mogadishu is Somalia. (this has been changing in the last 30 years, but it still stands)

This is not to 'dunk' on Somalia, I believe Ethiopia would be in an even worse situation if they had the same level of political uncertainty.

....tangent....
Sometimes, I even think there is a level of comfort the Somali people have with the power vacuum that is fascinating, there isnt a sense of fear or urgency.... those of the faint of heart left during the early days of the war. These niggas do not gaf. Truly a land of 'libertarians' :yloezpe:(conditions apply)

If two halves of Cairo went to war over control of central government, or two halves of Addis Ababa went to war over it and then decided not to have central government. That would be pretty funny but doesn't really seem possible.

Systems, government, ruling elites come and go in other countries but clan mobs are forever in Mogadishu. And since then you could say other capitals emerged and politial and economic life diversified. Mogadishu's relative decline continues unabated by foreign intervention. It's just an internationally recognized weak local authority at this point.
