No, their facial bones are not as well-developed. Of course, there are still handsome Somali guys around, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely more rare than it used to be when compared to our parents and grandparents generations.
Yeah I can understand why it wouldn't be as common because of the lifestyle change. But I know of a few people who became more fit and their facial features became more defined, it was just hidden under fat on their cheeks.

But I have not looked out for this or noticed before generally, I'll try to pay more attention.

Yes, that's cuz those guys had good bone development under the fat. Your original observation of losing weight won't work for a lot of young Somali guys because they're lacking the required bone mass that will give the sought after defined look. But yeah, look at your dads pictures with his friends in Somalia or other pictures u find online from pre-civil war Somalia and you'll see current Somali men look more soft and less intimidating, and have more problems with bidaar.

This type of good facial development and thick head of hair were common in the past.

The answer for why and how maldevelopment occurred in Somalis is complex, difficult and I have to take you on a jounrey through the digestive tract, endocrine system, the importance between mineral balance, gut health, the role of liver, insulin and so on.

But the curplits are Refined Sugar, Grains, Modern Milk, Environmental Oestrogen and not enough fat and protein in the diet. Remove al these culprits and ramp up fat and protein intake, and you solve the riddle. Eat high fat, high to moderate protein and eat all the carbs you want(Vegetables, rice and potatoes) that ain't grains, lactose or refined sugars.

But this all starts with Hooyo, prenatal health/development is everything. However, women are heavily more socialised than men and changing their diet and lifestyle is harder. So instead of focusing on Hooyo, we need a complete overhaul of the modern Somali diet.

Absolutely. I read a study that was done on a nomadic community in Kenya, comparing the ones who remained nomadic with those who became sedentary and took up agriculture. They found that the nomadic children, because of their camel milk heavy diet (protein), supplemented by some meat (protein/saturated fat), grew taller, had larger bone mass and had lower incidence of childhood mortality when compared to the kids from the farming communities, who mainly ate produce from the farms, supplemented with refined grains and sugar bought from the market.

Also 90% of the body's serotonin lies in the gut, as well as about 50% of the body's dopamine and many more neurotransmitters as well. Your gut is your "second" brain. And we all now know the damaging effects of grains and refined sugar has on the gut, so I propose that the nomadic children were probably better mannered, well tempered, had superior cognitive function and overall more happier than their urban argiculture counterparts.

Just a sidenote before some carb obsessive individuals attack me. I have no issue with rice, vegetables, potato, excellent source of non inflammatory carb(Glucose) source which don't damage the GI tracts like modern grains and refined sugar does.

Even today's geeljire from the countryside is leaner, stronger and has masculine jaw than reer magaal guy back home.

But, there is absolutely no excuse for a 20 year old Somali guy in the West to be flabby or skinny. You can eat all the food in the world but with moderation. Add weight training and cardio to your regiment and less time on SSpot, :sass1:.

Yes, exactly. Rice, potatoes and veggies are excellent. Sorghum (garow/hadhuudh) is great as well. But refined sugar and modern day wheat (bread, pasta, pastries etc) is practically poison.

It has to do with the nutrition. The differences in physique between city dwellers and people that live in the rural area is striking. The ones that grew up in the city are skinny, shorter and have deformed teeth compared to the miyi people. I haven't seen anyone with red teeth when I stayed in miyi, but I've seen a lot of them when I stayed in the major cities.

The people of miyi are generally tall with broad shoulders, you'd feel a midget amongst them.

I think people generations ago were generally healthier and better looking because they ate better, drank nothing but water and pure with no chemicals added. with that said, let's keep in mind that beauty is also subjective, what we find appealing might be something completely different to another culture. I have no problem with how Somalis today look, we just need to get a bit more exercise and cut out process food as much as we can and we will be a lot happier and healthier :)

to be fair hair could still be like this but every. single. man. I have seen here had it cut ultra-short. It's just not fashionable I guess. I'm already getting looks for my standard-lenght "long" hair :D
