If grade 8-9 is 12th grade for america, Its safe to say that high school in the uk is easier cuz normally this is I belive algebra 1 topics, which is taught in 8th grade middle school... I, most kids skip a class or even 2 in the math department
Extremely complicated for no reason what so ever, so calc 1 is taught in high school or college? and by c1-4 you mean college years right? and what is O levels? In American Highschool, most states require u pass algebra 2 and most kids who fail it just take a dumbed down version in credit recovery. We just have credits here and u need a specific amount of classes to finish high schoolCalculus, basically differentiation and integration is first taught in AS level, first year college, C1 and C2. C3 AND C4 covers advance calculus and other mathematics that is probably covered in 1st year International universities. AS is equivalent to O levels or grade 12 USA and A2 is similar to a USA 1st year uni.
UK college is only 2 years. It's either known as year 12 and year 13 or its known as AS level (year 12) and A2 level (year 13) to give you a full A level. GCSE is year 11 not 12. Calculus 1 and 2 is taught in first year college year 12 or AS level, Advance Calc is taught in year 13 or A2 level. Last time i checked the advance Calculus is not taught in American schools cause its university level of calculus. The hardest topics in year 13 for me was, advance trigonometry such as the use of cotx and its relationship to cosine rule, complex numbers, imaginary numbers, linear programming, Polar coordinates, Null Hypotheses and etc.Extremely complicated for no reason what so ever, so calc 1 is taught in high school or college? and by c1-4 you mean college years right? and what is O levels? Also I will attach a link to year 12 maths paper so you have a better understanding. In my time there were three papers you need to sit for AS level or year 12 maths exam. Now it's reduced to two papers. This is year 12 paper 1 exam in 2018.Extremely complicated for no reason what so ever, so calc 1 is taught in high school or college? and by c1-4 you mean college years right? and what is O levels? Thanks for the information lots to analyze, So at 17-18 years old you guys take the GSCE which I believe is the college entrance exam?UK college is only 2 years. No actually your reply educated me on US education system and how it differs from UK system. That's very informative, and it makes sense why you were confused. Thanks to you, I know now why it's difficult to compare both systems. Thanks for the information lots to analyze, So at 17-18 years old you guys take the GSCE which I believe is the college entrance exam?
What year are you allowed to drop-out of the school system? In America it varies by state but its 16 I think.
In america things are a lot more decentralized and the education system is mostly managed by the state. In Minnesota, you are required around 50 something credits over the course of 4 years.
Kids vary extremely, you have some of the immigrants learning how to divide while people who are smart are taking calculus in highschool. Although advance Calculus ( Ithink you are talking about calculus 2, a very hard course) Most high schools dont teach it unless they are very large. If you want to take it, you need to do PSEO, its a program which allows you to do college full time early as long as have completed all your credits at your high school, and the best part is its free. Many many somalis are doing this program mashallah I was wondering if you guys have a program like this.
So you tell me in year 13, you were taking what is for us an algebra 2 course, algebra 2 is offered in highschool and It its required in order to graduate (Unless u have special circumstance). I believe at Year 13 you are .. 19-20?
American College system is very complex,
Usually you need a certain amount of credits to graduate, and you need a topic you are doing.
Usually its 2 years for associate, 4 for bachelor, 6 for master and 8-12 for PHD.
Also just to clarify, for calculus 1 it is differention and integrals (anti derivative) correct?
And also do people in the UK have semesters?
Im asking a lot of questions I know but Im very interested in UK system of education
Thanks for the document clarifies a lot, so I can definitely say the UK is more more comprehensive in its math education. I do understand the questions and actually remember learning it in Algebra 2 a couple years ago, but if you were to give me this test right now, I would probably recieve a 50% if I'm lucky. Also I will attach a link to year 12 maths paper so you have a better understanding. This is year 12 known as AS level, i thought its similar to grade 12 in USA or Minnesota. But only student who achieved B or higher ( grade 6 and above) in their GCSE are allowed to do A Level Maths. This exam students are age 16-17.Thanks for the document clarifies a lot, so I can definitely say the UK is more more comprehensive in its math education. Like this question here, what the hell is this

This is next-level math, I can see why people are quitting sspot for this exam nowI guess its not a educational requirement here but wow, this reminds me of the stuff I did in calculus 1, but you have to do without knowing calculus, even worse is they wont even give you the equation of the line at all and you have to fuse them all to make an area, I dont know how to find the area of a parabola, that was never taught to me. You guys have it rough
View attachment 318175
Whats weird is they have things on that exam that seem way to easy compared to what I shared beforehand.
View attachment 318176
But even with these easy questions there are hard parts like B, What am I even suppose to do there? Find a random line, sounds too easy to be true.
Actually looking further into this paper it looks like its a mix of algebra 2 and calculus, this is absolutely crazy, can you clarify what age you guys are doing this work at? and what the average score is? This is highschool math literally on crack change my mind I would be lucky if I got a 10% of this cursed exam what the hell, no wonder everyone in the Uk wants to shank each other
And also whats up with the writing boxes lol, Are we writing an essay or doing math![]()
That made me laugh, the first part is easy but part B gets harder. You have to use b²-4ac>0View attachment 318176

Factorials, I remember doing something with factorials, Thank god ur allowed to use calculus for #15,Theres no way I would be able to do any other way. What I meant to say is that this is Pre-calc with calculus, but much more complex and comprehensive then whatever I was taught. I don't remember what I was taught. Maybe it has to do with the fact I forget everything. This is year 12 known as AS level, i thought its similar to grade 12 in USA or Minnesota. But by the Age of 16, you have the choice to select your A Level subjects if you meet the requirements or drop to lower levels or even completely drop out and start working (probably at places like Mc Donalds).
Question 11 is binomial expansion, an algebra algebraic expression with two terms. There is some formula but you have to be comfortable with the use of factorial its symbol is "!"
Question 15, use differention and Question 14 is equation of a circle.
This is not taught in american schools, that expression did seem weirdly familiar thought I just didnt know where its from (Im not taking any math this semester) had to search and its the square root part of the quadratic formula wow. Im sure they told us about it but I never pay attention most of the time im up in the clouds thinking about something. That made me laugh, the first part is easy but part B gets harder. You have to use b²-4ac>0
Unless you want to do Engineering courses to help you in thermodynamic and mechanics than its useless to study A Level Maths, cause year 13 is even harder than the paper I sent which is for year 12 AS Level.Factorials, I remember doing something with factorials, Thank god ur allowed to use calculus for #15,Theres no way I would be able to do any other way. So at the end of the day, is doing A level Maths even worth it? its at least 2x harder then any AP course ive taken

But yeah I really have no clue what do here apprently its a discriminant or something, we were never taught that. My memories bad but I know there were other ways to solve a quadratic formula such as Box and Diamond or they just allowed us to use quadratic formula.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one amazed whats being taught to kids overseas.wtf is this?!I never seen these kind of math problems in my life

Thats true, I believe I was in the middle of math class when I decided I dont want to become an engineer or an architect or anything that involves math. (Funnily enough, the same thing is happening to me in my beginners coding class) My favorite course has to be history and geography, math aswell. For biology, I didn't like it, it was mostly about memorization and not logic things you can solve. Mashallah bro I can tell you are academically gifted aswell, Hopefully its paid off well for you.Unless you want to do Engineering courses to help you in thermodynamic and mechanics than its useless to study A Level Maths, cause year 13 is even harder than the paper I sent which is for year 12 AS Level.
I can tell you were good at maths. It's my favourite after physics. I struggled in Biology and English was never good at remembering and writing story or remembering blood circulation, circulatory system.
The quadratic formula is to help you solve quadratic equations, specifically the 2X² and 3X². Cause these are hard to factorise into two brackets.
I think it is, Its kinda like minnesota MCAs tests that actually matterIs it national exam? And How it work
Thanks bro, hopefully your coding course comes to fruition and it goes well. All I know in coding is 1 and 0, binary numbers, java and c++ programing.Thats true, I believe I was in the middle of math class when I decided I dont want to become an engineer or an architect or anything that involves math. My cousin did nursing and there is nothing she regrets more, her back aches and she is underpaid ,atleast be a nurse in the USnursing.overall I wanna go into medicine.
Nahh I'd rather be a janitor for landfill then code, Thankfully its a beginners class, I feel bad for anyone whos new or learning to be a coder, that jobs finished with A.I.Thanks bro, hopefully your coding course comes to fruition and it goes well. Tf is McAs tests? Damn u anglo saxons have weird way of saying thisI'm glad that I'm not the only one amazed whats being taught to kids overseas.
