Galmudug traders using Berbera port

It is all about how many taxes you can evade, the reason Galmuudug is using Berbera Airport rather than Bossaso is because of it's distance, for one Berbera is much close than Bossaso and Garcad is almost there and barely new.

Secondly they can easily evade too many Texas if GL traders used Bossso instead, they will have to pay PL Texas and GL as well, were on the other hand if you imported from GL you can use back roads through Somali Galbeed Ethiopia and come through Cabdudwaaq and info GL, it is really this simple, nothing to proud of.
Lower taxes is a good thing. Berbera is cheaper than Bosaso because of those lower taxes and your even losing PL trade to SL. Garacad will attract N.Mudug business away from Bosaso but will never have the capacity of Berbera which is now a state of the art port. Bosaso is in severe decline, when is DP world going to deliver btw.

This article itself is that information. Galmudug traders are getting their goods from Berbera because of the lower taxes. Why else would they use a port so much further away than Xamar.

Is Berbera still as diverse as it was in the 60s?

half of my adeers were born there, my fam lived Daroole if I'm not mistaken.

some left in the mid 200s
Unfortunately, it's not as diverse as it was before the war in the late 80's. Most people fled when Hargeisa and Burco started being bombed, believing that Berbera would be next.

You're right though, a decent number of Warsangeli's used to live there before that. Similarly a lot of Dhulbahante used to live in and around Sheekh.

I wouldn't waste your breath arguing with him about anything SL related.

This thread literally has not just articles but also his own MPs saying that even reer PL are using Berbera more and more. That's just inconvenient noise for people like him.

What I’m confused at most is he says Bosaso is further away than Berbera. They’re basically the same distance to Galmudug. And if Galmudug trade was flowing through Ethiopia from Berbera that would be longer/more expensive than just straight to Galmudug. In theory if Bosaso was cheaper then it would be preferable for Galmudug as we share a border. Clearly however as the article states Somaliland authorities are attracting more trade because of the lower taxes.

AAW even said a few weeks ago it’s cheaper to ship from Berbera to Gedo! Than Xamar to Gedo. Most of this is security and taxes.

That should tell you all you need to know about the dude. Berbera to Dhuusamareeb by road is about ~900km. Bosaaso to Dhuusamareeb is ~880km. Like you said about the same distance, with if anything Bosaaso being closer.
He cannot accept even simple facts like that though.

The man is incapable of recognizing any truth that disagrees with the lies he's convinced himself of. He and his ilk have this circle jerk going on where they tell each other the same lie all day long, that they soon enough accept it fact.

Actually Bosaso port is way cheaper than Berbera, but you have to give taxes to Puntland, Galmudug and Hirshabelle if you are going to Beledweyne, that's why Galmudug collects more taxes than Hirshabelle and South West combined and close to Jubbaland (800K vs 1.1M), but if you import from Berbera you only have to give taxes to Somaliland only and they use backroads to dodge taxes imposed by Galmudug so sometimes this way is cheaper.
This is Puntland finance minister last week talking how the taxes in Bosaso port is cheaper than its counterparts, for example taxes on 50kg of rice in Bosaso is $0.7, but the closest port is over $2.
around 2 minute mark

Who is "they"?

Also, any evidence of this?

No bias here at all, but the Berbera port has become better maintained than the Bosaso one. Bosaso and PL in general has to deal with people like Abdiweli Gaas and his like, if they want to catch up. Berbera port can also handle bigger shipments.

I mean the trucks that carry the goods, they cross Ethiopian border to Galmudug without giving taxes to Ethiopia and Galmudug since they're using backroads, most of the trade in the border is like that since there is no asphalt roads connecting to Ethiopia.
