Mark my words, Gaalkayo will turn into a buffer zone 50km wide from Bur Salah to Ceel Dhahanaan in the very near future.

You should start investing in Garcad.

Galkacyo is the fourth largest city in Somalia, we can not leave it. What we can do is restrict new building in the south of the city, and make sure all new building on our side is at least a mile north of the city center. Then gradually we will have separated ourselves off from them to some extent. We could also fence off the south of the city and keep the road open. leaving the city would mean losing what people have built for the last 26 years.

Why not just mine the border areas a bit like South Korea and North Korea? so everyone will stay on their side of the tribal border or
get blown up. Leave a small corridor (the main road) as open for trade.

Don't tell anyone but we're actually expanding southwards :lolbron:

Like I said, the market is doing something on its own. Its giving us clues and you should pay attention in order to not miss the boat or be on the wrong side of this opportunity.

What you see is fields, and what the market sees is solar energy fields.

We cannot depend on having Ethiopia hold its finger on your light switch (whole other topic).

That will turn into an industrial park and people will live in a coast town where food can arrive by boat connected to other seaside accessible towns that bring in Agriculture.

Puntlanders cannot view this as a loss of land, or a defeat. This is what the emotional neefs want. The market will move out that city in its entirety to build a bufferzone of peace and nabaad.
Those are land plots for future construction, they are larger than the rest of Galkayo that is built. I has managed to flourish regardless of Ethiopia additional trade is a good thing but what makes Galkayo what it is is its strategic position and trade that goes through it what it lacks is stability which is political not economical. Loss of land is defeatist wherever you go land is worth something and there can be something beneath it natural resources such as water. You are making it sound like Galkayo is useless if it was useless nobody would fight over it

The clashes happen in eastern Mudug and they take their war to the city so you would need to a wall in all of Mudug. To Use an analogy it's like when we have discussion in the political section but @XamarCade takes the beef to a Puntland development thread :snoop:

To be honest it is HG that are causing the trouble in the area. Godod is north of Galkacyo and there is always numerous
ambushes in Balibusle that is deep inside Cumar Maxamud territory. You never hear of MJ attacking Afbarwaqo

The area surrounding Gaalkayo is all inhabited and is full of water wells. The Sacad folks have limited water resources and the big wells in the region is occupied by either MJs or Saleebaans in the area of Hobyo/Xarardheere. Godod alone has 8 big wells. It all boils down to the scarcity of water wells in their area and the abundance in our parts. And no, we will not share.

Godod started as an army base few years ago. Now it's a village with a primary school. It's growing fast. So your notion that Gaalkayo will be a ghost town is false, it's actually expanding.

Have you been to Detroit, they said that about a few ghost towns.

The city wont be entirely a ghost town. Homes will be bought by the government and most of the city will turn into a massive military/police training exercise ground.

There will be a 50km linear buffer zone from Goldodob to Ras Cabaad.

Somalias coastal waters have saved entrepreneurs from depending on roads to be developed. Our roads and interstate trade will
depend greatly on the ports for the next 10-15 years--cheapest highways by far.

When Garcad gets a port. Just remain quite and hear the footsteps of residents evacuate Galkcayo.

Last time I went to Garcad, I was shocked how amazing it was. I got heart burn when I enter Galkcayo, I just get angry and aggressive.

When Galkcayo turns into a military buffer zone, the gunshots and artillery rounds heard will only be for educational purposes.:damnmusic:

You’re judgement is clouded with emotion and kibiir.

Can you turn down your emotions and read what I just said again?

In 5 years investments will start pouring into Garcaad. People go where they are treated best and live safely. This isn’t your decision it’s the Puntland Market that will decide this. You can’t stop market forces.

Do you think Garcaad deal was just for votes?

Mudug will be restructured by the Markets will not the politicians. Galkcayo will turn into a buffer zone/Industrial Park not a city.

I remember 10 years ago we had a similar discussion to make Hobyo the centre, a fierce debate that still goes on until this very day, the stumbling block was similar to the one you are currently experiencing with your obtuse kinfolk on this very thread that have gone as far as to accuse you of being a sheegato.

Their peanut sized brains could not grasp simple economic concepts, multi-tribal cities like Gaalkacayo with constant conflicts is terrible for business, even the location and climate is terrible, it's almost impossible to get your own clan's men to seriously invest in it because of these bad clouds that hang over it

The benefits we have over the residents in Northern Gaalkacayo is that our home is also Mogadishu, which is were the bulk of our safe investments have been going the last few decades along with Afgooye

Hence the proposition for Gaalkacayo was to gradually turn it into a buffer zone while moving all the investments over to port city of Hobyo, this is already happening slowly after a decade of fierce fruitless debates, the first phase is the road construction, Gaalkacayo-Hobyo that is almost complete which was the biggest stumbling block, the second phase is the Hobyo-Mogadishu.

What's interesting is that unlike our sub-clan that calls several cities home including the mighty capital, the reer-mahad branch of Omar mahamoud heartland is just Northern Gaalkacayo and the few tuulo's that surround it, for them as well as their wider clan, Garcad is even more important then Hobyo is to us.

In the conflict of 2016 Xmas when 90.000 people fled the city, our ones fled to wisil that was able to cope easily were the inhabitants are from the same sub-sub-sub clan of those that fled, the reer mahad's predominantly fled to Garowe and Qardho, the lands of other sub-clan's that routinely humiliated them because of ancient rivalry, this was all over radios at the time.

The clan rivalries in Somalia is also between sub-sub-sub-sub-clan's which is something that shocks people that are unaware, because they assume it's only inter clan's.

Galkayo isn't useless, it will just not matter as much anymore. Mudug and the vast empty plains are where the attention is needed.

You can't go to xamaar and ask them to solve this problem for you.

The area will mature into a Military/Industrial zone.

The market wants peace, and Puntland must do everything it can to Mute all distraction South and West of Puntland.

In order for Puntland to explode in development and autonomy; you need to create these buffers that block distraction and dissonance.

@Bohol what you have to understand is that the HG have always grazed north of Galkacyo. It used to be shared grazing land. This is why in almost every clan map you can see Hawiye territory that is northeast of Galkayo. We settled that shared grazing land, places like Godod and Jeexdin and this is the main cause of the conflict.

The green bulge is what the whole fight is over.

There was fightings on the 22nd in the area of Godod, eastern Mudug. The tried to trespass in our area and the Godod troops attacked them. They received reinforcement but lost 6 men and few other were injured. On our side only 4 were injured. Here's the Mudug governour talking about it.

Yesterday, as a revenge, they fired two missiles in Gaalkayo that killed a 80 year old woman as the missile hit her home.

Whenever they get their ass kicked in the outskirts, they bring the war to the city of Gaalkayo in the hope to cause as much civilian casualties. They stand no chance in a conventional war as 6 of their soldiers were slayed in a blink of an eye.
