I am not against the development of Hobyo port. I believe that any development in Somalia is good for everyone.
I am also confident in Puntland's superiority in stability, security, and professionalism that southerners would still choose Garacad port over a hypothetical Hobyo to ship their goods.
I mean just look at the last 30 years. Southerners have been using Bosaso port instead of Mogadishu for tax and security reasons for years. With Al Shabaab as strong as ever and the FGS becoming less and less competent by the day, I predict that people from Hirshabelle and South West State will become loyal customers of Garacad.
President Deni knows this and has already set it in motion with his recent deal with those two regions.

What’s crazy is the costs of even building a port in hobyo will be huge...they are going to have to alter the environment heavily.
This port is purely a joke.
It will be a shallow water port and it won't recoup the cost used to build it. Qatar may build it as a "favour" but it doesn't make sense for Hobyo economically.
The better, smarter thing to do would have been for Galmudug to approach Puntland for Garacad shares.
Galmudug people need to not be swayed by the anarchists and try to work with Puntland to make Mudug an economic powerhouse, both the airport in Galkacyo (new upcoming one) and Port could be shared-- if they work with us.
If Galmudug, however, allows the anarchists to mislead them, they will see no profit aside from the trickle-down of Northern Mudug's upcoming wealth.
