The problem is that Farmaajo doesnt aid those regions that support him. Where on earth does a president ignore the regions which he has support and run to people who hate him.

Most investment has went to Galmudug and Hirshabelle which today have ignored him. Meanwhile SWS, SSC and Gedo were ardent supported of N&N.

Smart leaders reward those regions which support them, this leads to a strong base which then can be grown. I think this might be a textbook case study of idealism failing.
