farah luugo pasto, please read

We collectively don't care about traditional clothes. Even this boqors everyone is posting are either wearing Arab clothes or 2 sheets.

The only real traditional Somali men clothing is 2 sheets. If you want to have something for us to wear then make it, if not? Stop complaining. :kanyeshrug:

These robes are not 'Arab clothing', Somali men have been wearing robes for a very long time. There was even an account by an ancient Chinese traveller, who noted that Somali rulers wore long robes.

I get embarrassed seeing Somali men in that saudi black and gold khamis, the moroccan baatis and other arab attire during important events .

This eid make an effort, it’s actually embarrassing seeing you men dress so khaleeji like, look at pictures from the past and catch a vibe.
I get a little heated when i see west and central africans look good.

Instead of buying moroccan baatis, start someone research and start a somali attire business. It’s getting ridiculous

TWITTER discourse : a langaab kurdish man shared a pic of a somali man dressed like his people, ceebta

And don’t try to make add religion to this convo. i’m discussing clothes. you’re not getting hasnat for wearing these clothes.

Me and my brothers just wear normal clothes and koofiyad or formal clothes. That's enough for us rather instead we should make koofiyad widespread amongst us like the fes and just wear it with any other clothes to the point anyone can know we are Somali if we wear it.

Clothes-policing has to be one of the weirdest things on this forum. People should wear whatever they want to wear as long as its halal. Don't let others tell you how to or how to not dress.

If you like something and you look good in it, wear it.

No what OP is saying is understandable we need a somali clothes revival a whole entire cultural renaissance cause of us poorly claiming and gatekeepibg our clothes many other ajnabs are claiming it as theirs I saw a tiktok few hours ago of pictures of ethiopiam men wearing somali clothes and claiming as theirs. It's getting quite annoying.

@Aseer Yeah ofc if ethiopians are claiming somali clothes it should be called out. But OP is not talking about that. OP is saying somali men shouldn't wear thobes or any general islamic attire.

As long as your clothing is halal, wear whatever you look good in.

Wow, insulting someone like this especially in the blessed month of Ramadan. You should be more careful with the tongue.

Your level of hostility and inability to have fruitful dialogue is a testament to why this thread is poorly made.

Thobe is tolerable but we should emphasise reviving the somali bisht and then wearing it with turban or a koofiyad would be best and even with a stick as well.

Reviving old customs is fine and good, I'm talking about the part where people "police" the clothing of others.

Eid is a day you wear your best clothes and what you look best in, if others want to wear permissible clothes then that is their choice and they shouldn't be told what to and what not to wear.

Good point I also agree it's just that I want to ensure that somalis revive these old clothes and standardise it as our national clothes.

not really, people agree

Using Ramadan as a comeback is weak, you lied and claim i said β€œsomali men shouldn't wear thobes or any general islamic attire” where did i ????

No one’s stopping you from cosplayig as an Arab, the thread wasn’t for people like you.
