In addition to the normalized corruption and self-interests, Farmajo has used violence against the opposition and vocal activists. His crimes are on a level never seen before—and they are as fresh as they come. He must get tried in court along with all those involved.

The only reason we even have this barely functioning government is thanks to the many reconciliation efforts in the past. Although no justice has been served, it was still the right call to make—otherwise, we'd still be in a stateless country and a capital city ruled by small-time warlords. Unfortunately, this meant that some people got away with their crimes, but where would we be today had we not done this? We can't go in circles pointing fingers at each other and continue endless wars.

I'm not in support of any of the currently running candidates, but whataboutism will only get us in a deadlock and enable more idiots in the future to do more or less the same. Looking back into history and digging up wounds patched long ago is impractical.

We've come so far and made good progress, but we're still suffering from self-serving leadership. If we want a functioning government that works for its people, then we must start holding these politicians accountable for their actions now.
