His use of clan for power, especially evident in his final days when he prioritized his clan's interests, created a situation where other militia groups saw survival as contingent upon resisting a government intent on tribal genocide. The fact that everything turned into a tribal shit show was clear from the start, Barre used clan to stay in power and overestimated the strength of his own tribe. In the end he lost.

Whatever atrocities Siad Barre commited against the Isaaq did not in anyway justify the mass killings and yes purging "the abrupt or violent removal of a group of people from an organization or place." Which is different from a genocide which has a more permanent implication. 80,000 Gadabuursi being forced to flee, and the effects of the SNM being so great that it even permanently changed the demographics off Awdal, does that not sound like a massive purge has taken place, which when talking to survivors corraborates that claim?

Lol the Sameroon returned from Ethiopia. There was no permanent change of Awdal's demographics. The Cisse left on their own free will to find a better life in the Djiboutian State. The recent 2021 elections showed there is less than 1k Isaaq living in Awdal. There are more Sameroon in Hargeisa than Isaaq in Borama.

All three militias were opposing the bare regime they all joined forces then captured xamar and weakened the bare regime but then hawiye usc attacked darood spm and turned the liberation war into clan war then later on SPM Darod split due to internal divisions and lost Kismaayo as a result before retaking it back later on.

Neither SNM or SPM had anything to do with the final push to overthrow Barre from Mogadishu. It was USC's sole effort particularly the Abgaal militia under the command of Mehdi.

Well, that's your opinion. Existing literature clearly shows SNM (Afaraad & civilian arm of SNM) used all peaceful measures to address MOD abuse of power in Isaaq territory. It was Barre and his Faqash loyalists who refused to keep their militia fall back in line. They doubled down on their pro Afweyne policies and we had to use force to liberate our homeland. We'll do it all over again if we go back in time.

USC had 2 main factions. Faction led by Caydiid is the one who signed the triple threat agreement. The Mehdi faction, one who actually overthrow Afweyne never recognized the agreement leading SNM to declare independence. It was also the reason Caydiid and Mahdi fought so bitterly. Caydiid saw Mehdi's coup as blatant power move by Mehdi to hijack his 3 years struggle against Barre. He was fighting in the Central and southern regions only for Mehdi to show up last minute in his clan's stronghold in Mogadishu and toke all glory declaring himself as president.
