Exploring Little Mogadishu in Mombasa

@Midas @Galool @Thegoodshepherd @novanova @Barkhadle1520 @Zak12

I kinda came across some info on the Somali economic activities in Mombasa through some of my research in this thread where i tried to look into Somali cross-border trade in the NTP thread:

Basically Somalis own large acres of farm land and cattle ranches in & around Mombasa and are the most active in the port and in the fishing ports and own factories and processing plant

When you read further you even discover how much money and political influence Somali businessmen have created in places like Lamu and Mombasa.

''The Prime mover in the event that transpired in Bargoni that day was a Kenyan Somali businessman based in Mombasa, Tahir Sheikh Said whose business empire , known by his initials T.S.S includes interests in food processing, cotton refining, transportation and so on"

Abdi Maalim the cattle rancher and ostensibly the richest and most politically influential figure in Bargoni(Lamu) arrived while enjoying the status of "driver" in the livestock marketing board.

So i am not even surprised how nice it looks . Someone should do a segment exploring this and collecting it into a coherent information because it connects back to trade/finance from Somalia and Garissa. I think the focus on Eastleigh tends to overshadow a lot of this and that distorts how wide the economic foot prints are.

Wow that's actually crazy I didnt realize these guys were already this active in 1997 almost 30 years ago. It really makes you think that there is probably nobody who realizes the full scale of these operations.

When i went to kenat for vacation I heard about this cattle stuff while I waa in Mombasa actually from a family friend. But I had assumed it was some new thing they started in the last several years but its actually been ongoing for decades.
