The modern side of really big European cities, with skyscrapers, are almost never shown, at least in American perceptions of these cities.Big cities in europe have both. Modern buildings and old architecture.
Paris (Haussmann architecture).

I have to mention, Paris has a cool urban form. From the looks of it, such results demand extensive planning, architectural and city-wide consideration to build and follow up consistently from a long-term perspective preserving city integrity.Big cities in europe have both. Absolutely. You explained it well . You can read about the Haussmannization of Paris. Very interesting topic and it explains how Paris was designed.I have to mention, Paris has a cool urban form. For those wondering, this suburb is called Newtown which is like the arts hub of Sydney and very popular with young people.
New York by comparison is tacky and disgusting.
I have never been to New York but I always thought their street view was similar to Europe (which I have visited)
