The European Union executive has temporarily suspended funding for the World Food Programme (WFP) in Somalia, two senior EU officials told Reuters on Monday, after a U.N. investigation found widespread theft and misuse of aid meant to avert famine.

We need to take harsh measures and crack down on this type of blatant corruption and other schemes where the poor are taken advantage of.

Somalis (beggers who want to choose) complained that WFP bringing food aid directly was hurting farmers (there are no farmers left in Somalia). So WFP began to give money directly to those in need so they could buy food.

Landowners in Banadir had always taken a cut of the food as rent. They now began to take the money aid as rent. This money aid is easy to track due to WFP using the mobile money system. If almost all beneficiaries are sending half of their money to a few accounts, it is a red flag. Baydhabo and Gaalkacyo seem to have joined this racket now.
