WE DID IT BOYS! This one took the longest and was a pain in the ass, especially as my computer wiped and I had to restart. But here it is- in all it's glory! If there is a error in anything please let me know (sorry for any people from Gambela, Central, South, South West, and Sidama but all my sources used the 2007 data set or extrapolated off of that, and due to woreda, zone, and region re-organization I cannot simply impose the Gambela expansion and additions of new regions without making many woredas of unknown national and lingustic composition. Except for Sidama I suppose, but alas no Sidama person is on this website I can do as I please!!!). On the size of the text I made the top 6 largest ethnic groups size 20, top 3 were size 25, the rest were size 15, and the groups too small for me to name without crossing a existing line of text or boundary were put into a neat numbered list. Special thanks to the Oromo region for saving my ass here as I was able to put the names of a great many groups using it lol. You might ask me 'where is the pie chart that you do?' that would take alot of time, but I will do it if enough people ask for it. Color code is as follows: Red/Reddish are Ethiosemites, Yellow/Beige are Cushites, Blue are Nilo-Saharans, and Pink/Purple are Omotic. If I put a group in the wrong category please correct me.

1) Yes they are Amhara, during the Imperial period a great many of them moved into the conquered regions- these people were called 'Neftenya' (you may have already heard this term as it's a term of abuse against the Amharas these days esp among the Oromos). They form a small yet powerful minority in many places, the areas outside of the Amhara National Regional State that are majority Amhara simply just had more Neftenya then usual or the Neftenya just made the earlier inhabitants run away (or worse)

2- Ehh the Sidama have a population of 4 million I would not use the term 'small' for them. As for why the Oromos took lands from them, it's quite simple- the Oromos simply had more soldiers then the Sidama and were thus able to take Bale from them. The Ethiopian army at the time was not able to effectively defend the Sidama because their power had been sapped by Imam Ahmed, and the Sidama themselves were active participants in the war (the same was true for them).

They actually got it good compared to others, they only lost some fringe lowlands out of their total territory- the Gedeo were reduced to snubs, the Hadiya lost some of their best lands, the Harla and Dawaro went extinct, and the Amharas lost Bete Amhara [Wollo] itself to the Oromos (and those not assimilated, killed, and displaced became Muslims).

This is what the Sidama look like (first image from a voting booth when they were voting on becoming their own region, second is from new-years celebrations)

I do not know much abt the Sidama, but from a quick google search and endless wordpress reading they just ran to the highland portion of their lands instead of running to other lands, they also never re-accepted any of their nation which became assimilated by the Oromos like we did, nor attempted to re-take lands captured by the Oromos like we did. For crying out loud in these days Oromos that are actually assimilated Sidama are one of the OLF's only fighters outside Wollega!

When you run from flatlands to mountains you lose old traits and gain new traits, there is now hunger to regain lands. Compare this to Somalis which lost territory very very similar to our current territory, we accept those who were assimilated as Somalis if they wish to return, and we have hunger in our souls for that lost land. If Somalis from Hararghe ran to the Danakil depression and became salt-traders their hunger for their old land would not exist, Somalis from Hararghe ran from grassland and went to grassland/shrubland, their livelihoods never changed they still have a personal stake in it.

Alot of yapping to say this but basically the farmer does not care for a land he cannot farm, not saying horse culture is dead among the Sidama but it has declined.

They look like a habesha nilotic mix
Who do you think they took the land from? They took it from Omotic ppls and multiple studies show that their corner of the old SNNPR had quite a bit of Omotic Y-DNA as for their Nilotic appearance it's just because they are farmers these days- can't look like a geeljecel without geel!

Also they be eating good asf these days, 40% of Ethiopia's coffee comes from the Sidama region that is big for a region of 4 million. Probably due to a too much grain and not enough meat they look like that.
