To be honest, Oromos are literally THE "pan-Horn" ethnic group. They've assimilated Somalis, Sidamics, Habeshas, Agaws and arguably even some Omotics. Shows plainly in their clustering. Overlapping with everything from Somalis to Habeshas to Wolaytas. If their expansions had fully succeeded the whole Horn might have been one massive country and, to my chagrin, an admittedly formidable global power if not successfully sabotaged by the West and Israel.

Of course it would have been unfortunate if they then turned around and began re-writing all of the region's history as "originally Oromo" but scrutiny from outside scholars and those among them who are measured and learned would have curbed that eventually and they'd get more real and admit the prior Somali, Habesha or whatever other presence.
