The divergence of Af-Maay & Af-Maxaa is deeper than the divergence between Spanish & Portuguese. No one in their right mind would call Spanish & Portuguese, dialects of the same language. They definitely have more linguistic diversity in the deep south (especially the more ravine areas). That is undeniable. I just assumed that it was mostly minority groups that spoke more divergent Swahili-like languages. Af Maay is difficult to comprehend but more comprehensible. There is debate as to whether it is a dialect or language of its own. I understand it is a divergent dialect of the same language with lexical, phonological and morphological variations.
