They definitely have more linguistic diversity in the deep south (especially the more ravine areas). That is undeniable. I just assumed that it was mostly minority groups that spoke more divergent Swahili-like languages. Af Maay is difficult to comprehend but more comprehensible. There is debate as to whether it is a dialect or language of its own. I understand it is a divergent dialect of the same language with lexical, phonological and morphological variations.

The divergence of Af-Maay & Af-Maxaa is deeper than the divergence between Spanish & Portuguese. No one in their right mind would call Spanish & Portuguese, dialects of the same language.

How comparable are Af Maay and Af Maxaa to Portuguese and Spanish? I've only heard that from Lewis. The degree of intelligibility isn't exactly fully documented. Even linguists have difficulty deciding whether two linguistic varieties are separate languages or different dialects. There are also other classifications of what would constitute a particular dialect v.s. language, according to the scholar.

Moreover, some dialects of the same language aren't even mutually intelligible. I think there is also a difference between an accent and a dialect. I'm not a linguist, and this is outside my area, but if I have the time, I could dive deeper. This is what I came across concerning classifying the language-dialect relationship. The jury is still out, though.

The mutual intelligibility of the language varieties may have diverged. Moreover, this overlapping
cultural history along with Af-Maay being partially intelligible to speakers of Af-Maxaa classifies it as having a Type 5 language-dialect relationship (Crystal, 1987), similar to that of Uzbek and Turkish.

They don’t understand this actually weaken their case. A more diverse group of people are willing to work together vs one that’s racist and planning to create a pure ethino state.

Used to be more of them and they had their own city ect. The South used to be diverse but not as much anymore. The diversity was kinda cool.

Clearly a lot has happened in Edna’s life for her to go from representing Somalia, building hospitals in Moqdishu and being a Somalia wadani standing beside her husband who was PM of Somalia to her spouting what she’s spouting.

I do believe that the generation of the 1900s to the 1940s regardless of qabil were the greatest of Somalia and I can’t even imagine how they felt seeing the country they built up and turned civilized collapsed in the most brutal of ways.

Im merely using logic, and this isn’t an inferiority complex. Why is the dominate language that of a group that isn’t the majority? How does that make sense?

It’s the same way I laugh at the Banadiri poster who believes that cadcads owned Xamar when that doesn’t make sense.

If you can’t answer a question simply say it without attacking me. I know I could be wrong and this is mostly educational for me. But why would the Geledi empire take on the Barwaani language if their subjects weren’t mostly Barwaani? I’m not denying that ethnic Somalis probably were the ones governing ect so how could that be an inferiority complex?!
