This is a very low turn out as I said. This only kaah voters, there is no other party involved who is organizing their voters. Puntland must cancel this registeration

It’s possible people were discouraged from registering but I don’t believe Kaah is responsible, there are plenty of factors. I spoke to my people back home and they said many Puntites couldn’t afford to miss opportunities to work to lineup and isdiiwaangal.

@Calaami the scary part is the two largest party(mideeye, sincad) didn't bother getting their voters to come out, they didn't even participate.

@Calaami @FBIsomalia if we assume 70% cannot vote and below 18 and only 30% can vote. That means 1.2 million total and 385000 now equals 30%. The question I have is how much of that 30% came to register? is it only kaah party?

Some of the results were strange, Galdogob district was known as the second largest district in Mudug by far with Galdogob city’s pop. nearing 100k but only 15k registered?

Voter registration is the easy part. Most states registers nearly all their citizens, especially when the state goes out of their way to find people rather than the other way round. I haven’t followed the PL process but this is pretty poor given you’d expect excitement and high engagement in cities.

Actually getting those registered to vote is the harder part. If PL gets 50% turnout I’d be impressed

If that is the case, they should introduce “registration/voting day” next election ordering everywhere to be closed to give people a chance to vote and register.

Very low turnout but same in the states for local election people only get excited about president and national politics.

this is good start just hope it doesn’t splinter state election time can get ugly. The people who sat out will learn valuable lesson when people who participated select candidates there is no proof only kaah people participated and this project is supported by west so doubt it gets cancelled after all the time and money

City councils will be drafting the local laws that affect Puntites the most, they’ll definitely regret not participating in these elections

These figures just highlight the reality on the ground.

Maroodi Jeex has more registered voters :russ:

I think you'd only need a few districts in Mogadishu to get those figures.

1M1V would 100% resolve Somalia and give power to the majority instead of the minority

I don’t think this is in an exaggeration. Yaqshid, Karaan, Hodan could produce similar numbers to this.

Mogadishu should move to local elections within HSM’s term. It would help him out a great deal in fixing the power imbalance for such a difference in population

With Mogadishu I still don't understand why there aren't local council elections?

As the city has distinct zones and it'll be easy to mark seats for each area.

I'm sure it'll be achieved before 2026 :banderas:

The numbers are not that troubling to me, but the turnout in people from ages 40 to over 50s where the highest turnout was women, and young people under 30s.

- Only 11% over 50s,
- Only 10% between 41 - 50s,
- Worse yet, Only 19% between 30 - 40s.

Therein lies the biggest variance, and shall beget a political quandary at both district elections, and more so in parliamentary.

But then again, both Nugaal & Mudug resisted participation, and the general public was more focused on the SSC conflict de-interested in voting, let alone registration.

Do bear in mind, a good first attempt is the goal, and not perfection.

All in all, a very good starting point, with their being a plenty of time to remedy the process.

Postscript:
Voting age is set at 18, and not at 15, the 'qaan gaar' age, which makes a difference, and I think they are planning to address that in the future.

It’s of course a goal now given HSM wants 1m1v elections. I listened to a PL MP and he said HSM said to him ‘We’re the majority’ When dismissing their claim to being more important than other states. If anyone wants to fix this imbalance it’s HSM

You have to start small and making the capital democratically elected is a start.

The reason why it'll work is Mogadishu has a budget over £25M and so it does and can deliver services to it's people. This will incentivise the people to vote and engage with the government.

Once Security is established in other areas you'd then replicate it and etc

The people that are important to the state are the people that pay to the state and we all know how they are.
