They used to accuse the Ajuuraan of practicing primae noctis

:russ:

Apparently in Benadiri tradition, the conquering Abgaal Imam forced the practice on them as well

:russ:

Both cases supposedly led to their downfalls

I once watched a documentary about a tribe who lived in Kenya, I forgot the name but they practiced this, the father sleeps with the bride on the first night. And he actually chooses the bride for his son.

This is listed as one of the reasons for the fall of the Ajuuraan:

https://operationoverload.wordpress.com/2009/04/29/the-ajuuraan-dynasty-of-the-hawiyya/

"The custom in Ajuran times was for the ruler to spend seven nights with every new bride before she went to the bed of her husband. The imam also collected half [some sources say all] of the bride-wealth normally given by the husband’s kinsmen to the father of the bride. The bride-wealth was in those days 100 camels."

Edit: Sorry Bahal. Didn't see your post.

There is a tradition that a widowed woman marry the brother of her deceased husband, so then her kids with the dead one & the kids with the new one become half siblings/cousins. It is still practised in some places.

My family do that. I think it comes from Islam or at least Arabian culture as Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) married two of us daughters as one died so he went for the next one
