I've decided to add more philosophy in this place. Present your cases and reasons. I have no real answer for you.

I dunno where the confusion is. Do you think the self, as a constant part of your identity, exists? Or do you think that the self is an illusion? And why? That's it fam.

That's one of the names for the self. But I'm talking about static identities. Not spiritual manifestations of oneself.
Your conscious could be the self helen keller couldn't hear or see nobody knows what was going in her conscious but she could understand things based on the vibrations coming from the jaw of her teacher. So your conscious is the self

What are the properties of this "conscious"?

Your awareness your senses. Which give you a point of reference even if you only have partial senses
Our senses have fooled us before. There was a time we believed the world was flat due to our sense. Can this be looked at as a reliable point of reference then?

Based on the timeline, yes
I think we misunderstood each other. My original question wasn't, "Do we really exist", but rather "do we have a self"? In the sense that there is a constant personality within us. An identity that's independent within us.

I can't quite figure out if we have a single self with multiple self-states or multiple selves (with a major self and various minor selves). I guess it's all the same to me. I'll use them interchangeably. Nobody is 100% consistent all the time. You act differently depending on how you see yourself and how others see you and based on the context. You learn about yourself by picking up pieces of the selves of others - friends, family, fictional characters and even foes. Yes; it's possible to borrow pieces of your self from your archnemesis. Sadly, it might not be the most admirable of qualities.

@YourBroMoe are you from a parallel holographic (dimension/universe) where reality and all it encompasses is simulated?
The simulation theory in itself is interesting to say the least. As were create more and more sophisticated simulation, indistinguishable from reality, we're going to have to ask the hard question, "How can we know if our reality is base reality, or merely a simulation"?

Yes the self exists through traveling the universe, it’s acquires special skill for having self aware, the average joe can’t achieve this skill there he must disconnect from the world in order to seek “self” if you’re still reading this, you must be a dumb ass because that shit didn’t make sense, you’re still reading are you? Interesting.

Yes the self does exist partly due to our somatic nervous system. We walk, touch feel and pretty aware of things, unless someone is suffering from dementia.
