Almost every horn country has a Jewish population except for us (Eritrea & Ethiopia)

is it possible that we have or that we used to have a Jewish population back in the day? According to my mom most Somali Jews actually had roots in Yemen and most (if not all of them) left Somalia and moved back to Yemen & Israel years ago.

but it’s hard to believe that it is true because I just don’t see how that would be possible? People back in the day were definitely hostile and actual peace loving people but a Jewish community in Somalia? Seems too unlikely

I believe the Yibir community are lost hebrews. They talk about this themselves and recently a Yibir lady came on here to share her DNA results and she found a Semitic Paternal Haplogroup. Furthermore, they have their own secret language.

If there is an established hebrew community in Ethiopia, 100% they are also in Somalia.
DNA testing is even showing that clans we think are ethnically Somali, are actually from Oromo roots. So, we shouldn't be surprised that we have different groups from Ethiopian roots living among us.

For me personally, my mother claims that we have Semitic and Bantu ancestry because she’s from a minor tribe (my father is actually from a Samaale tribe, he’s ethnically Somali), and within those people there was a lot of intermixing for many years

Edit: it’s really sad and really disappointing because we do have a multi-cultural society but it’s just too dangerous for many people to practice and do what their own ancestors did.

Now I wonder if the Yibir made the "Hersi" amulets that Somalis of old wore.

I can't find a picture, but it looked like a leather necklace with some kind of amulet that also looked leather.

Personally, I think they should be stopped from practising magic as it's a threat to others.
But the rest of their culture and language should be under protection. I once read somewhere that Gabooye groups are losing their languages and it's very sad. Aside from DNA, language holds a lot of history and we can uncover their story.

I have a suspicion that Gabooye groups are all originally Semitic and the ones without Semitic haplogroups were influenced/married into them, it explains why they are productive people.

Worst? I say Being Christian is worst, purely because Judaism is the lesser evil of the two. Christians believe Jesus pbuh is God- Caudubilaahi minal Shaitaan Rajiim. if they are- they are hiding or dead. Because i do not believe Jew Somalis will live in a unstable country like Somalia where al shabaab can bomb any time. Nor Christians too

Yibirs are Somali Muslims. So even if they have ancestral background that can relate to Prophet Ishaaq/Isixaaq (peace be upon him) or his son Yacquub/Jacon (peace be upon him), they are Muslims today.

The superficial views of Somalis when it comes to who is a Jew is unbelievable. Without Judaism, you aint a Jew. To give you examples, when the rest of the Jewish world discovered the Ethiopian Jews (Falashas), it created a huge debate within the established Jewish clergy. They were accepted by the Sephardic rabbi in Israel, while the Ashkenazi rabbi rejected them.

The Sephardic rabbi used his acceptance based on a text left behind by a Mizrahi Rabbi in Cairo in the 1500s where he met 2 men from Ethiopia who told him that they were Jews who came from Abyssinia.

The Azhkenazi rabbi argued that since the Ethiopian Jews didn't have a contact with the rest of the Jewish word for 2000 years and they don't have the certain elements of the Jewish faith, especially the teachings of some Jewish 'prophets', and they also don't have the Babylonian Talmud, they shouldn't be moved to Israel. However, Jewish communities and Israel should help them live in their land (Ethiopia) and make sure they were safe.

The debate about Ethiopian Jews' Jewishness has been ongoing between rabbis in Israel and the rest of the Jewish clergy in the Western world for decades. There is a section who still opposes their Jewishness. So to bridge the gap, the Ethiopian Jews in Ethiopia are required to carry out full conversion to Judaism before they can be allowed to immigrate to Israel.

Now, my question to the Somalis who argue that Yibir are Jews is, how can they be Jews when they're Muslims? These claims are laughable; they aren't Jews and these claims are dumb. Please read some documents of what makes someone a Jew. Without a verified Jewish mother or grandmother, you can't claim Jewish heritage! The Yibir have been 1000s of years in the Horn of Africa, so how can 1 prove that they're Jewish?
