In my experience, I would vote no on this one too. I think it's more variable though, bc Black ppl are less cohesive than Arabs, and more accepting of half-breeds and therefore phenotypical variations. So some insist that you are in-group, and some jump you for daring to claim so (actually happened to a family memb).
Wallahi it's the truth. Nobody ever thinks I'm Somali. Even Arabs think I'm Xabeshi. My brother is a medium brown colour and looks Somali to me, but he told me everyone at his college thinks he's Ethiopian or Eritrean.
Somalis look different from Habeshi, you must be a mix breed. Not colour wise but feature wise. I think you deluded yourself though. You could compare the Habeshi president of Ethiopia with Farmaajo.

Lol nah, I'm not short or have the bug eyes. Even Somalis don't think I'm Somali. It's funny cuz when I get Somali customers at my work and I speak Somali to them, a lot of the times they say that they thought I was Ethiopian.
If you're mistaken for a Habeshi, then you must look like a Habeshi. It isn't a question of colour since you'd have to be as white as a European. There are both dark and light Somalis and they all have a "look". If you lack this look, you probably have some Habeshi ancestry. It isn't a question of colour.

I concur greatly sir. Even many Ethiopians and Eritreans look less "black" than Somalis but their blackness and Africaness almost never gets questioned because they are pro-black and are proud of their black african heritage. Honestly speaking if I was not Somali I would probably believe that Somalis were mix mutt arab half breeds like some people believe. By the way they act and how arabized they've become booty clapping for their arab masters!
We may all be Somalis, but:
- We all look different (skintones, hair, etc)
- We live in different communities
Whether or not you are considered black by other blacks doesn't reflect their views on all Somalis. It's an individual thing. Lightskin, loose haired Somalis would probably not be considered black whilst darker, kinky/curly haired Somalis would. Yet we are from the same ethnicity.
It also depends on the type of black people. For example, it seems like Black Americans are more accepting of Somalis than Nigerians, Caribbeans etc.
