Djibouti Somaliland and DDS have the chance to topple Ethiopia

TDF are about to take the Semera Road into Djibouti. That’s why Amxaaro are doubling down on Berbera as they’re already locked out of Sudan and have nowhere for their import export to go through. If Djibouti Somaliland and DDS make a deal with TDF we can strangle the Amxaaro and make a deal to carve Ethiopia up in a favourable way for us. The powerlessness of Oromo will allow us to even take all Muslim Oromoland and assimilate them.

Even if this dream scenario would become possible, I'd only be interested in regaining the Hawd. I'd have no interest in ruling any other people.

If you claim Somaliland then the Hawd is not your problem, the only reason you want it is due to tribalism lol.
The Hawd was part of Somaliland at one point, but the British, under pressure from the US, gave into Ethiopian request to have it be given to them.

It helps to know a little bit of the history on these topics, before running here with your qabiil based nonsense.

I never knew that lol.

However was Hawd managed by Britain? If SL is based on british colonial borders hawd is non of your problem.

Yes, Hawd was under British control. SL leaders like Michael Mariano and clan elders including an Ogaden went to Britain in the mid 1950's to lobby the British that the Hawd should remain part of Somaliland when it was due to gain Independence in 1960. The British instead gave it to Ethiopia.

So, yes, the Hawd is definitely a Somaliland concern and an area we'd love to bring back if the dream scenario the OP referred to happened.

Interesting , i think it would be foolish to claim it currently due to obvious power differences. What is the clan makeup of the region?

This was based purely on the the hypothetical scenario the OP was referring to, where Ethiopia essentially collapses. Even then it would likely never happen as the IC would not allow another country to just claim territory of a failed state.

I think there are many other posters on this forum better informed on the clan make up of the region, but I know Isaaq and Ogaden live there prominently.

Hawd was part of SL borders or isaaq sultanates which the british signed treaties with but the British gave it to Ethiopians in the 50s breaking the treaties which sparked uproar among isaaqs who eventually turned to somaliwayne advocating for greater somali nation and british to leave the territory

@The Crowe I am almost certain that is incorrect.

The British conquered all of Greater Somalia in 1941 (including Ogaden and the Haud) and held onto it until the 1950s in which they gave Ogaden/Hawd to Ethiopia and Somalia to the UN.

The Hawd was not part of British Somaliland pre-1941, not to the best of my knowledge.

Feel free to correct me on this.

It was controlled by isaaq sultanates mainly GX IYO Arab as the British signed treaties with them being a protectorate of those sultanates

Laakin that does not count as being part of British Somaliland sxb.

The reason why PL does not have case for independence is because the sultanates were not nation-states by the modern sense of the word.

Somaliland wasn't a colony like Somalia was under Italian rule but a protectorate where there was major autonomy given for the locals rule themselves but in foreign affairs British handled that for them same think as Kuwait Qatar and UAE who were under British protectorate but skeikdoms existed

Sxb you have missed the point.

The AU/UN etc recognise colonial drawn borders and since the Hawd was not part of pre-WWII borders then its difficult to make a case for it over the Ogaden.

Realistically speaking, both Somalia and Somaliland have a decent case for the Hawd and Ogaden equally but not one over the other.
