Djibouti people don’t consider themselves somali ?

Djiboutians seem aight to me. They have the right to distance themselves from Somalia. Somalia = somali ethnic group.

Djiboutian youth speak Somali much better than Somalia youth in the diaspora but are quick to claim they are not Somali.

I lived in Djibouti for two years and Djibouti somalis are way more nationalistic and proud of being somalis than Somalia Somalis. They still hate afars for backstabbing them when they wanted to join Somalia.

Anyone who even remotley looks a bit somali
Even habeshas are called somali by foreigners
Thats because somalis are more well known than other horn of africa groups

That's cap. In the same way, a lot of people stupidly say people of Somaliland don't think of themselves as Somali. It's purely stated for divisive motivations because no one has ever had a real experience with it.

lol you guys are crazy, I think maybe you met afars or non Somali Djiboutians, cuz in Djibouti there were a lot of foreigners, most of the workers I met weren’t Somali, my aunties driver was half Yemen and half Ethiopians

I have seen one on this site that is a Somali ultranationalist. But for the greater population, prolly not, its not hard to believe that they refer themselves as Djiboutian. I don't think any westerner knows where Djibouti is located so no stigma toward them. Never met a Djiboutian in real life so my opinion doesn't matter.
In English speaking places no one knows what Djibouti is so I don't really mention it. But if I have to give my nationality or we are taking about countries ill bring it up. Otherwise I'm Somali.

But in french speaking places they know what Djibouti is.

Yes Djibouti is like 60-70 somali but there's still a good chunk non somali here. They don't call themselves Somali and people like Afars got a hate boner for Ciise. But we managed to assimilate them to the point you'll see all types call themselves Djiboutians an speak Af Somali

Does it matter? The ones that are Somali are Somali and the ones that aren’t aren’t. It’s small population isn’t going to change anything in the grand scheme of things

No offense ,@Khaemwaset :hillarybiz:

They're embarrassed to be seen as Somali. Just look at how we are portrayed in the media. No nother demographic gets treated like subhumans on social media. It's no wonder why they don't want to be associated with the name Somali. Truth be told.

You guys need to put respect on us Somali Djiboutians! We speak our language fluent while being in the quurbo! We know our dhaqaan! Were the only ones wearing the sadex qayd and showcase Somali dances to the world! Here's an example of dances from the 80's and now:

Haters gonna hate 🇩🇯🇩🇯🇩🇯🇩🇯🇩🇯🇩🇯🇩🇯

As a Djiboutian, not every person in Djibouti is a Somali so not everyone will identify with Somali. But Somali Djiboutians will always say they are Somali. Some TikTok isn't representative of everyone.
