The Ciise are protesting because of what happened recently in Melka Jebdu. The ironic thing is that the conflict is not between Oromo and Somali but between Ciise and Gurgura as Melka Jebdu is settled by Gurgura and they are no longer on friendly terms with the Ciise. Nonetheless, some people are pushing the narrative that 'Oromos are attacking us' so as to make it seem like it is an ethnic conflict as the Gurgura in Melka Jebdu are mainly Oromo speakers. Go through that Barbaarta Dire Dawa and Sitti Facebook page, you will observe that some of them are verbally attacking the Gurgura. Even the attacks in August were supposedly orchestrated by the Gurgura former police chief who was allied with Cabdi Iley so as to disrupt the Dire Dawa conference. At the end of the day, this is mainly between Ciise and Gurgura. It is in the interest of the Ciise for there to be peace with the Gurgura because they are the dominant native group in Dire Dawa.

Of course they do, that is purely political. I would claim Oromo too to gain protection and ammunition to defend myself from a other Somali clan attacking me.
