It just occurred to me why didn't the mighty roman empire try to march south of africa? They probably heard legends of the mighty geeljires who lived in the south. Who would devour them and all their legion if their white asses ever tried marching south. I mean even scipio africanus called himself "Africanus" when he had only defeated carthage in the north, thinking he had conquered africa. I would have love to see the mighty romans try and march south into geeljire land like the persian king tried to.

Im not joking romans would of crushed the somali city states it would have been long and relatively bloody i mean if anything the somali's where in there very nature the worst kind of people you could conquer even if you did you'd have to conquer them by their rules and are prone to infighting one day the next they march up to the roman fort in the area burn it and kill the inhabitants then disperse like sand in the Sahara

I don't think we would have lost due our pride clouding our judgement and our natural savagery but rather it think it would have been a stalemate much like the crusades where the opposing party would realise that it costs more to hold places in somalia than to capture other territories.

How does anything you said make sense? somali's as a majority weren't inslaved are you denying we where conquered? we where conolised it made no sense to enslave a somali would take easy offence to everything rebel almost instantly it was a dagger waiting to strike your back

Actually u r right! Nothing passes the south Sudan! I listen to a recent hadith of the Caliphates conquering, the Arabs stopped at North Sudan, they couldn't proceed to south because the south Sudanese were menacing. They had a special was of fighting, throwing dangerous pebbles that targeted the arabs eyes and blinded them. I think it was Uthman ibn Khatab who said no more, lets withdraw. The Romans did contemplate conquering the Somali city states because they were fooled by Somali merchants who were buying cinnamon for cheap from Indian merchants then selling them at much higher prices to the Romans. The Romans thought the cinnamon was grown in the Somali peninsula because the city states refused to allow the Indian merchants to trade at Roman ports.
