Delusion of Grandeur! Farmajo begs to "supervise" military operations by Ethiopia!

Having 1/3 of the "country" out of their hands is a pretty important issue. Best believe there will be a war if Somaliland doesn't bend the knee like they expect us to. Direct war isn't the only possibility that can happen but a stronger Somalia would have a higher chance of foreign governments and organisations respecting their so called sovereignty and they can isolate us through various means diplomatically and economically. Things like the Berbera deal and other foreign investment would probably not stand any chance, direct foreign aid to Hargeisa would be out of the question, they can ask foreign airlines and shipping lines not to operate in Somaliland, a ban on trade etc.

A good example of this is the Northern Turkish Republic of Cyprus that is effectively embargoed internationally through Cyprus who has lobbied successfully to the UN,EU, various International Organisations and countries. They can only manage to stay afloat due to Turkey's support, we don't have a patron so you can see why this would be even worse for us. This is what you are effectively looking at in the face of a stronger government down south. Don't be complacent sxb, no doubt they are in a weak position today so they have fewer options but when the tables turn, they won't hesitate to cripple us.

Having a peaceful Somalia doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a strong state. It'll be 50+ years before Somalia will have the ability to put an embargo on Somaliland. You're really over estimating their capabilities here.

As long as Somaliland and Somalia are stuck in this unsustainable union both sides will focus on tearing one another down in order to somehow gain an advantage over one another. All that does is hold them back and keep them weak and susceptible to foreign meddling. As long as this remains there will be no threat of one state taking over another. The real threat is that both governments sabotage each other and send us back to weak central authority and clan rule.

This is why I support a 2 state solution. It will end the animosity they have for each other and form the basis of a new relationship of economic and security cooperation.

50+ years? Somalia is packed with natural resources. If peace is achieved i don't see why it would take that long for Somalia to build itself. All the other African nations did it in 10 years, and botswana used to be the poorest country on earth not too long ago. Now they are the most developed country in Africa.

If by ''strong state'' you mean by European standards then yes, that would probably take longer. Although i don't think Somalia needs to be at that level of development in order to put an embargo on Somaliland.

Actually being packed with national resources will cause even more instability. If the federal govt tries to take control of its natural resources they will get blow back from the local tribes since they'll be seen as corrupt. It'll take decades for people to have trust in the government again.

Somalia has a long way to go before it can be as stable as Botswana let alone put an embargo on Somaliland.

Ughh, this tribal crap really gets on my nerves. But you're probably right.

That doesn't mean they aren't primitive. If they were smart they would try to reconcile with somalia and build a mutual good relationship like europeans do

We have to reconcile with each other first.

Somalis are the greatest threat to Somalia.

Not Ethiopia

ok but I was responding to your statement that Ethiopia wouldn't benefit from its neighbors house burning

If your neighbor sets his own house on fire and threatens your homes integrity, what would you say to him when you see him?

Ethiopia needs Somalia and Somalia needs Ethiopia to help get goods to other landlocked neighbors. Follow the economics not the politics.

look, I agree with you I'm just saying Ethiopia isn't thinking like that, they're just thinking of how they can take advantage of Somalias instability

The Ethiopians refusing "supervision" is a test of Farmaajo's resolve. Somalia has to gain some of its sovereignty back. The longer this crazy situation of having foreign troops that are unaccountable to the Federal gov continues , the less likely that Somalia will ever regain complete sovereignty.

Ethiopia and Kenya want to establish a norm of them entering Somalia anytime they wish, so that when a functioning gov is created they can intervene when their interests are threatened. They are thinking 20-30 years in the future.

Politics is about timing, and he couldn't have choosen a worse timing to go head to head with Ethiopia. A weakened Ethiopia with lots of domestic problems will now use Somalia to flex its muscles. He just gave them a gift on a silver platter. His emotionality was always a problem even when he was a PM.

Ethiopia just retreated from Somalia and now he says 'give me a heads up if you guys wanna return'.

Instead of an army, Farmaajo should try to get funding for a competent intelligence agency under his control if he's for real. A million soldiers can't do a thing when terrorists and etc just mix in with the population.

With some training from Turkey or even Britain (if he apologises for the Dervishes and makes a deal) he could quickly train a department able to swift through all the shifty characters in Somalia.

Dispute what they call him, he's doing what's in best interest for his people. Quite frankly, Ethiopia should not deny a motion that monitors their legitmacy in Somali soil.

First compare between Ethiopia before 2006 and after 2006(invasion of Somalia) and you will understand how they got that stage. Do you know that Ethiopia gets cut of Mogadishu 's port? And soon berbera 'a port!!!!
Your greed for money blinded you.
I can bring status/links that prove my points. But I don't got any time to teach !!!

They should get a cut and hedge their risk. They pay for boats, maintainence and export their goods. Do you know how much trade comes in and out of Ethiopia?

I think there's a reason you didn't read my more recent post on make money in Ethiopia, while not being in Ethiopia. Go read it please. A new generation of Somalis entrepreneurs will make millions with Ethiopia and another generation will calcaal about it.

Somalia is currently under UN control since it's still a failed country under their definition. Since Amison & Ethiopia were drafted by the UN to station in Somalia; Farmaajo hasn't got the right to ask them of anything.

I was referring to the Amison mission and the fact that Somalia is under protectorate of the UN more or less. US ~ UN what's the difference?

Farmaajo is just a temporary caretaker placed there by the UN (don't even bring up that he's elected) and can only follow the directions from Addis or the UN unless he wants chaos under his administration.

Listen addis and UN didn't want farmaajo from beginning. Addis wants hawyie president and even made a report stating benefits of hawyie president. The corrupted alliance that made him to resign last time. So, don't underestimate farmaajo winning for once and all the MPs forget their wallets and listened to the people.
