You have to be more specific. It's more like

30% "White" Maghrebi Arabo-Berber
40% Maghrebized Blacks (Same language, culture as the above due to being their former slaves)
30% West Africans (Soninke, Fulani, Wollof etc, these people are very different to the above two)

In Mauritanian politics its a battle between trying to court the largest single group, that being the Maghrebized Blacks, "Haratine". West Africans also look down on the Haratine but they try to play the we wuz Blacks card for political purposes as they themselves have slaves, caste system etc.

Yeah because they are virtually indistinguishable culturally, linguistically, in practically everything but skin tone.
