I don't condone murder especially against children but tbh what did they expect? Many Somalis have gotten killed by Oromos over the years and still do. There is major tension and historical division between us yet some Oromos thought it was a good idea to come as far as Galmudug and expect to be treated well. Its akin to being shocked at an Israeli child being killed by a Palestinian in Gaza or West Bank, it was bound to happen given what the former has done to the latter.

True, but when things were at its worst, it was more than just border conflicts. The government of DDS and Oromia were at odds with each other, which also led to clashes between the states.

Does the government tax remittances? If not, they should. If you tax the remittance payments sent to households with able bodied men, it could force more locals into doing the work that’s being done by the immigrants

I know the government didn’t have the resources to do this in the past, but between voter registration and the IDs that they’re rolling out, the government should have the info it needs to make this happen

Someone asked HSM about taxation during the recent Q&A session and he mentioned that he intends to implement taxes on all form of transactions, that goes from one person to the another. Not sure if it may include remittances since he was talking about within Somalia, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they plan on doing so.

They should also implement migration reforms. Work permit should only be given to foreigners if there’s a shortage of skilled workers and not for menial work.

In the meanwhile, the government needs to allocate more resources on educating and training locals so they can close that gap in the market.

That's a good idea, I think FMS's should tax remittances, NOT the Federal Government, because it is always held hostage by lunatics who like to withhold development projects to force FMS into giving up their rights.

Tbh all of the stories I’ve read of atrocities against the DDS and Somali civilians have been doing during combat or revenge between ethnicities. I might be mistaken but I’ve never read about us being mistreated because of our ethnicity, I have family living in those harar areas

Absolutely. Taxes should be collected by whichever FMS the recipient is living in. Tbh I think all remittances should be handled by the FMS and not private companies but maybe that’s a conversation for a different day

If you don’t mind, does your relatives include those Oromized Somalis living there, which they are many around Harar?

My point was that, while most conflict occurred between the locals, there was a time when it deteriorated and clashes occurred from the northern to the southern Somali-Oromo border areas. Trying to frame attacks as renege isn’t very accurate either. Can’t speak for your family’s experience tho.
