Some of them definetly, slavs inhabited large parts of modern day Greece and there are numerous slavic toponyms throughout (mainland) Greece.

most likely it was them who initiated the contact and asked for resignation, since they are the younger nation, when you become a nation and gain independence you ask other countries to recognize you that's how it works .
