the other day me and my friends (all somali) were having a chat and the convo lead to us talking about somalia and how the nation has a bad rep over all the mayhem and dysfunction, one of my friends mentioned the power of shaming and how he's perfectly fine with all the criticism somalia gets, he believes that if more somalis are exposed to these criticisms then they'll be shamed into improving the nation. What do you guys think? Would this work? :it0tdo8:

Yes and no. Some shames are like for the sake of criticism, and some are for insulting, the later doesn't care about Somalia's situation. I know some somalis get angry when they are called "Somali". If Somali children grown up in environment where Somalia's reputation bad, they probably grow to be shamed if it, and will try their best to not be associated with it

i agree with you sxb but somalia's reputation is currently pretty bad atm unfortunately they'll still be exposed to it either way, and he was referring to the somalis back in somalia since they have better insight of the nations politics and can collectively hold these corrupt officials accountable

Somalia gets ranked the most corrupt, one of the poorest, and one of the least developed countries every single year. If Somalis had shame our act would have been together a long time ago. We get called every name under the sun from terrorist to pirate we get made fun of for having starving people. Shaming us won’t work if there is no shame to have

We've already been shaming ourselves for the past 30 years, racist DailyMail comments won't do jackshit and might even activate our inner savage Somali brutality

We just need better leadership:samwelcome:

>Can you shame people who are the definition of shameless into improving themselves

logic seems legit

Dude I've tried this approach with Somali brothers shaming them for being skinny so they can hit the gym, some go for it. Most feel belittled and start hating you.
