Snap election is only the last measure.
President (= German "King") called on all parties for renewed negotiations. Social Democrats + Merkel is still possible, but they don't want to.
Merkel can also form a minority government. Otherwise re-election around April.

I'm not a fan but it's pretty likely she will stay in power, it's just a matter of whom she will form a coalition with.

She's still somewhat popular, mainly for her decades of political experience and the economy is doing okay. The hate for her is mostly for the migrant stuff.

Haha no way! AfD are there to and protest, not take responsibility. On top of that they think Merkel is the devil so they'd never do it.

You could say the economy overall is doing ok, however in East Germany, it seems they are doing worse off compared to the rest. More development needed there imo.

Brain drain can't really be easily solved with gibs. People vote with their feet. They will be permanently behind.
