Ppl have said they thought me snobby before they really knew me irl so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.

Source please. I think the old man is better educated & thinks better than most Somali Sheikhs and even if he made such suggestions we should look it contextual. For example, if Islam is based on logic and common sense, allah would prefer a drinking, fornicating society than a murderous tribal society like us who continuously kill, rape and pillage one another and cause long man made droughts that cause countless suffering to children, women and the elderly.
