China demands arms embargo exit framework for Somalia, abstains from extension vote

The arms embargo shouldn't be lifted, Farmaajo's workers like Zakariye Xaaji have brought in drones to assassinate Puntite leaders and others who stand in the way of this expired regime. Thankfully this plan of theirs was foiled, but they will not stop until they secure his 2nd term.

I agree the embargo should continue but there is no clarity on what Somalia should do to remove the embargo in the future.

With any clear targets that means the decision on removing the embargo solely rests on the interests of the Security Council.

Here's my problem with all this..

Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. have not been sanctioned with the excuse of safety of civilians and weapons falling into terrorist hands, in fact the U.S and NATO armed Syrian opposition groups, and guess what happened? ISIS got weapons and heavy armour, and they STILL went through with it.

Russia abstained for a reason and they were right, this whole ordeal has a nefarious undertone to it, Somalia is to be kept like this for decades to come, we're top 5 in population in the Horn, have the longest coast on mainland Africa and occupy the largest territory in the Horn African region, you really can't blame these gaalo for what they're doing, not to mention too many nations relying on our maritime resources, it would be a disaster for the developed world if Somalis got their act together.

UAE isn't a loose federal system sure every emirate has its own local policy but in security economy and foreign policies is handled by the central govt with the offices of presidency and vice presidency and commander of armed forces always at the hands of Emirs of Abu Dhabi
UAEs “central” government is a council of the leaders of every Emirate(state). This is a prime example of a federation and they were able to hedge their superior system and now colonize the horn of Africa.

A chicken and egg scenario conundrum perhaps. Does Somalia need a powerful central government first to no longer be under an arms embargo afterwards or is it the other way round. Personally we can have a strong enough federal government without needing the lifting of this arms embargo if we copied the UAE model of loose federalism with state rulers collectively running the whole country at the federal level

I already told why the UAE example does not work.

Respectfully, you are intentionally spreading falsehoods to people in order to make them comfortable with their qabiilist pipe dreams.

Somalia cannot have a UAE type federation.

Only USA or Australia style will work.

Suggesting the UAE as a role model is laughable at best.

Never said it was a perfect match but its close to our needs. The federal government for them isnt a foreign opposing entity to the states but rather the collective of the states.

We have states because we dont trust each other(for good reason), we should have as much of a trustless system as possible.

The loose federal system is known to fail and generally cause more conflict.

The UAE is an exception because the government has enough money to bankroll their citizens to the point of complacency.

For example: The Emir once forgave every Emiratis loans because he felt like it.

Even if Somalia had oil money, our population is too large to offer the widespread benefits Khaleej countries offer their citizens.

Furthermore, Emiratis are less than 10% of their own population, so there is an inherent interest of Emiratis to stick together no matter what.

Somalis for over 80% percent of their own population and therefore, there is no existential need for Somalis to put another Somalis interest above their own.

The minute the UAE’s citizens stop receiving the widespread benefits they current receive, it will set the clock for disintegration or crisis.

I hope we can finally stop talking about UAE type federalism and confederalism and realise Somalia won’t develop until qabiilism ends.

Either that or import 10 million foreigners and force Somalis to work together.

@Periplus if you was to have a "normal" type of federalism like Australia or America whereby the country is ruled by just one single person eg Scott Morrison or Joe Biden respectively then you'll find clans/subclans fight one another to install one of their own members to become that one ruler. This is why I support a collective body ruling Somalia jointly

I wont , goddamened wish that the embargo got lifted with type of security and army force.
There should be some measures that strict this army and security that we don't see badbaado qaran popping up with weapons or magically alkabaab got them with mysteriously some officials disappearing

Then we need to make sure that Somalia makes sure that this infighting is eradicated by any means possible.

The alternative is another civil war.

It seems like many Somalis here are willing to go back to another civil war over qabiil.
