China demands arms embargo exit framework for Somalia, abstains from extension vote

TLDR: China is arguing that the arms embargo needs to have clear milestones for Somalia to reach in order to lift the arms embargo instead of the current year on year sanctions without any indication of what Somalia needs to do to lift it.

Russia also had an issue as apparently Djibouti and Eritrea got roped into this arms embargo.

Can’t lie I find it hilarious that China complained to the UN about the rights of Somali fishermen being exploited by foreign fishing vessels.

:mjlol:

China is an ally of somalia, they also vetoed a very dangerous security Council proposal that Britain wanted to bring against somalia.

The arms embargo shouldn't be lifted, Farmaajo's workers like Zakariye Xaaji have brought in drones to assassinate Puntite leaders and others who stand in the way of this expired regime. Thankfully this plan of theirs was foiled, but they will not stop until they secure his 2nd term.

In related news....

Japan extended their anti-piracy mission in Somalia.

Isn’t it coincidental that Japan is a really big seafood market.

It's like allowing a wolf to guard your sheep.

China has already been given a deal to rob Somalia's seas thanks to Farmaajo's inept regime, Japan is just joining the hustle.

Japanese fishing vessels were sighted around Banadir. The Somali sea sits on a tunamine which the indhoyars would do anything to obtain, if only geeljire took the blue economy seriously.

Yemenis and Spainards in Northern and Central Somalia, Thai, Chinese and Japanese in Central and South Somalia. The Somali sea is a world buffet.

I don't get opposing it, but also abstaining in the vote. Reminds me of Ilhan touting the fact she brought up debt relief bill for Somalia to Congress, but also didn't vote for it in the end..

Mashallah China, Russia have proven to be great allies for refusing endless arms embargo extensions. Somalia jeedd a capable airforce and navy in order to defend her skies and seas from pirates and terrorists and foreign threats. We need tanks, drones and anti AA battery missiles.

We all knew this was gonna happen tbh. Unlike somalis the ajnabis are united against us, at least on the agenda of keeping somalia and the muslim nations weak perpetually indefinitely.

They will let us sell our resources to them tho, which i find contradicting and ironic. Why are we selling oil blocks to these nations that want us to be baby sat by them. This colonialism hubris needs to be brought down. We failed to keep up with the arms race and the invention of the air plane helped the UK to bring us into this hopeless cycle of colonialism and poverty.

Only by designing and manufacturing our own weapons will the muslim nations be able to form a EU like bloc to defend ourselves from the oppression of rogue corrupt governments. I find it ridiculous that the europeans think they are entitled to tell africans and other nations to accept protection from them, whilst instigating regime change and supporting terrorist groups to further their interests in those countries..

Ilhan was a co-chairman of the group that drafted the bill and was the one that put debt relief in front of congress. She only voted against it when it was clear it was going through which is political posturing.

As demographics change in the next decades because of all the tahribing Africans/Arabs to France/UK, it will be interesting to see if policy changes in these countries.

As if China wasn’t robbing the seas before Farmaajo you dirty MJ tribalist

When Marehans are born, is "worship Aabbo" whispered in their ears instead of the Adhan?
This obsessive commitment you have to never questioning your politicians is very disturbing.

β€˜There is no official data on illegal fishing, but Yaasin Ali Yuusuf, director general of the Ministry of Fisheries in Puntland, a semi-autonomous region, said many South Korean, Chinese and Iranian vessels have been fishing without license in Somali waters, or with forged license.’ - TUE MAR 31, 2015

Should’ve questioned the leadership here instead of viewing through a tribal perspective

You are conflating illegal fishing with the deal Farmaajo's government has signed with China.

Lifting arms embargo would be dream come true to various clan militias and Al shabab. Somalia isn't ready for this as its armed and security forces aren't really well integrated.

A chicken and egg scenario conundrum perhaps. Does Somalia need a powerful central government first to no longer be under an arms embargo afterwards or is it the other way round. Personally we can have a strong enough federal government without needing the lifting of this arms embargo if we copied the UAE model of loose federalism with state rulers collectively running the whole country at the federal level

UAE isn't a loose federal system sure every emirate has its own local policy but in security economy and foreign policies is handled by the central govt with the offices of presidency and vice presidency and commander of armed forces always at the hands of Emirs of Abu Dhabi
