I met someone like that in University.

She was Somali, a mother, top student and part-time dugsi teacher that didn't watch TV. She had a very supportive husband, too. I met her in a class, definitely someone that would bring you closer to the Deen, very compassionate and close to Ilahi judging by her manner. I love authentic people. And I know sincerity when I see it.
Alas, I didn't see her around the following year. You have to be around someone of that calibre enough to render the benefits of their presence but at least they set an amazing precedent of what's possible especially in the pluralistic west (where there are so many forces competing for a piece of your mental real estate).
Some people cross your path as an example.
