cousins are the worse when it comes to envy. because they're close enough to be parellel to your life and feel a need to compete with you or compare themselves, but maybe not close enough as a brother/sister where they're wanting good for you overshadows any hint of jealousy

I agree. In my opinion the rivalry comes from the aunts. If the aunts are petty and jealous, then their kids (cousins) are the same. You can’t separate the two.

One of my biggest lowkey opps is my cousin on my Hooyo side.
We would always be compared. I was younger but still came out on top.

Isn’t it crazy how it’s always the cousins on the mom side that are problematic? I feel like cousins on the dad side are cooler because the moms don’t impose, they usually stay out of it.

Yes but it sucks because you can’t have a deep connection with the kids because of them. So everyone loses out. There’s a few cousins on my mom side that I don’t fw because of jealousy, competition and xaasidnimo. That plus my aunts are controlling and control their kids, it feels like they’re a third wheel in the relationship.

I see. When misfortune randomly strikes I usually don't attribute it to the evil eye. I find it hard to even discern if it is.

I think envy is a wasted emotion that divests energy away from bettering oneself and improving one's own lot. Other people's accolodates, traits gifts, aptitudes and achievements are commendable and inspiring if you use them as an example. Its best to just compete with oneself.

It’s true others success should motivate you rather than cause you to be angry at yourself. I say this because I think at its core, envy is not so much you angry at someone’s accomplishments-

as much as it’s you being angry at yourself for not accomplishing what another has.
