Did you listen to it? :ftw9nwa: Do you understand the Somali language? I read what you wrote but I responded to the main point. No need to waste time on the rest. Speaking in a language that is not Arabic doesn't have any bearings on why Islam is part of our identity. There are Arab Christians, so speaking Arabic language doesn't define who is a Muslim and who is not.

However, looking at the Somali people's history, its integral parts have been two main things: 1) Speaking the same language; 2) Being Muslims. You take Islam out, there is nothing left.

The struggle of the Somali people in the last 12 centuries speak for itself. And there is no way that diaspora kids who embrace in liberalism or gaalnimo will change it.

She doesn't even understand the history of the word "gaal". There was no cadaan in our land when that word was given to kuffaars by Somalis.

So you’re saying our 5000+ year of existence and history which includes civilisations known to be historic and being known as the trade centre is nothing compared to the fact we have been what? Linked to Islam as a majority for less then 700 years. Give me a break lmaooo

1. People back home don’t speak majorly Arabic. Even people from my clan don’t and have dumped it to make Somali their mother tongue so who are you even insinuate that? Also another fact: your native tongue is Somali which is btw *shockingly* not the same languages other semetic speaking people use. This argument would have made more sense if you were Habesha. Imagine claiming another language that isn’t even related yours:silanyolaugh:

2. Again, Islam didn’t came from our ancestors. Israelites only are considered officially to be ethno-religious because Judaism came from their people and they based their language, roots, culture and history on it, we don’t have that with Islam. The only connection we have with Islam is the fact we believe in it, but we don’t speak the same language that’s written, our ancestors haven’t brought this religion to us, other people did, it has nothing to do with our roots or culture because it came afterwards (like 4000 years later minimally).

our Holy book is written in an Arabic dialect and it is considered to be Arabic worldwide. Our religion is Arabian and is heavily influenced by Arabian culture, roots, tongue and history. Arabic Christian’s speak in Arabic because it’s their own tongue but their holy book isn’t based on their language at all.

Somalis were more known then speaking the same language and following Islam. You’re just outright insulting us lmao, you’re literally claiming we haven’t done greater things to achieve but you really put speaking the same language as #1??? Nigga please

These people are braindead sis. Its what happens when your IQ is in the 60s . No point trying to reason with them :pachah1:

That wasn’t always the case tho. Arabic was the language of educated Somalis for centuries.

Even during colonisation, many schools were Arabic-language.
Correct. Arabic to somalia is what spanish is to america and what french is to canada. It's Somalia's second language.

It still has that position today as a decent portion of Somalis (10-20% back home plus Gulf/Egypt/Yemen diaspora) speak it.

But if you go back to 100 years ago, educated Somalis would write letters in Arabic and even write Somali in the Arabic script.

It’s only since independence that we’ve begun to see the majority of educated Somalis not knowing Arabic.

True and true. Even after colonization Arabic schools were there. A lot of my older family speak both italian and Arabic. It's just Siad Barre decided to make the somali language written in Latin base format.

“Educated Somalis”.
You said it already, only educated Somalis did it. Arabic was never a language considered to be majorly spoken among the public at all. It was mostly spoken by educated people and in the past by my own tribe because of cultural and historical roots.

nobody considered Arabic to be their native tongue and I am explaining that to the user I’ve mentioned. Somali is our mothers tongue, our birth tongue and native tongue, not Arabic.

I completely agree that Somali was always our primary language and our mother tongue.

But most who had at least had a primary school education during the Italian or British rule could speak Arabic to some level.

Plus those who went to religious schools regularly were taught the Arabic language.

The colonial government newspaper that was inherited by the SYL, used to publish in Italian and Arabic.

Two of Somalia’s largest newspapers during the early Kacaan years were Arabic-language. Najmatul Oktoobar and Al-dalee’a.

That should tell you how popular the language was not that long ago.

Please go & educate yourself as what you’re arguing for simply is beyond ridiculous. The term ethno-religious implies shared ancestry & religion & it’s a factual description of us as somalis even if we take islam out of the equation.

You argue otherwise based on distant past history but it still doesn’t help you at all.

Even if we consider our ancient history prior to Islam we would still be an ethno-religious group as we still shared a similar religion . What then ? Remnants of that religion is still adhered to by other groups in the horn eg some oromos.

So appealing to our ancient history to negate our ethno-religious status isn’t going to help you at all. Nor will it have any benefit in arguing against our Islamic identity.

What’s your end game here ? Did you think that appealing to ancient history is going to make us a more diverse society or that it will lead to the acceptance of gaalo somalis?

I can’t even imagine the sort of mental gymnastics you had to conjure up to say that the word gaal was mostly used to refer to cadan invaders & that it had no relation to their religious beliefs. Or even the claim that we’ve been majorly Muslim for only 600yrs or that Islam became important after the civil war.

Why are you willing to resort to revisionist doctrines to portray us as something we’re not. Is accepting gaalo somalis that important to you ?

The woman who bragged about Ayaan Hersi and sees her in high regard is calling us IQ 68? Listen, you embraced in kufaarnimo and the degenerate lifestyles that are associated with them, that is your loss. You and others' efforts to make us like you aren't gonna work. We'll forever remain people whose faith - Islam - is ingrained in their identity. Mere emoticons won't make up for the amount of loss you feel inside. :heh:

What she is arguing is really pretty dumb. It does indeed show her lack of knowledge in terms of Islam and Somali history.

I didn't even quote you in that comment about Ayan Hersi? :dead: @Xoxoxo is hallucinating in a broad daylight? :lolbron:

Besides, there are no sources and no historical knowledge in your comments. So nothing left for me to refute. You're all over the place, dear. Anyhow, if that makes you feel good, go for it. lol
