The laangaabnimo is even in the graph you put up for comparison. Somaliland graph has a number of heads axis that goes up to 3.8 mil wh Le puntland one goes up to 2.2 million. This is called visual propaganda.
It's amazing how these khat addicts think a UN agency has a bias against them. Visual propaganda kulaha what.

This is a perfect example of Somaliland's 50% literacy rate.

Bosaso is strangled > Bosaso exports more
Saudi Arabia banned us > Bosaso exports 25,000 to Saudi
We export more camels > Bosaso exported more livestock
We exported more in 2016 > We exported more in 2020

Lmao 2020 isn’t even over yet so those statistics don’t mean anything. Over the last 5 years 10 years 20 years and all recorded history berbera has been more busy. Only in 1 year that isn’t finished yet did you export more livestock supposedly. That’s with faqash in villa Somalia doing everything they can to stop Somaliland livestock even begging a low ranking Saudi minister that was overturned.

1 key thing your missing is bosaso has not sent out or received a single container in its history while berbera is a major regional container port and is being expanded to be a world class container port. My guys talking about livestock that is shipped 2 times a year while Somaliland has deals with Eygpt and UAE to ship yearly and to ship slaughtered animals.

I’m sure one of the sland spotter will post about the slaughter house in burco. We already export everything from meet to bottled water to puntland. You’re having a laugh wallahi

Livestock is Somalia's primary industry. Lay down the khat kid, you aren't exporting high tech here.

@Thegoodshepherd's post

That post was made by someone who does not understand how Bosaso works. It is a tiny port with a single berth for large ships. The image he posted contains three such ships. Berbera, Kismayo and Mogadishu could have all three ships dock at one time, while this is not possible in Bosaso. The two large ships in the background are in all likelihood waiting for the ship that is docked to disembark so they could dock next. Bosaso's single berth is 500 feet while Berbera is 2,130 feet long, Mogadishu is 3,116 feet, and Kismayo is 2,030 feet.

The only publicly available data regarding port activity is FSNAU's data on livestock exports, and as of last year Bosaso is exporting more livestock than Berbera for the first time since 2008."

The ships anchored out of Bosaso last week. 28-9-2020.

You are being outperformed by a small port with 1 small berth. No wonder you guys are so invested in seeing it fail.

Thank for admitting that bosaso ain’t in the same league as Berbera

Your port had its ceo killed and you think anyone would want to do business there :drakelaugh:

Put I guess bosasso does have its use like smuggling arms for terrorists :russ:

Roidy did you move the goalpost again?

One of those main entry for weapons smuggling is also Maydh that’s in Somaliland.

But then again you are the same guy who said P&O are blacklisting Bosaso last month and moving to Berbera.

Have you finally accepted that Bosaso exported more than Berbera?

It is almost impossible to compare activity at Berbera and Bosaso simply from the "in-port" because the number of ships in-port at Bosaso will never be more than 1, while Berbera can have 5 or 6 in-port. You can check activity at Bosaso by looking at how many ships are anchored at the port, ships that are waiting in line to dock in-port.

As of this moment Berbera has 5 ships in-port and none anchored and waiting. Bosaso has 1 ship in port, the maximum possible, and 4 anchored and waiting. The entire difference is explained by the size difference between the two ports.

It also does not make sense to compare Bosaso to Berbera because Bosaso has as a hinterland parts of the Somali region and the parts of Somalia north of Beledweyne. Meanwhile Berbera has the Somali region and to the rest of Ethiopia as a hinterland. It is better located than Bosaso in that it has non-Somali customers. This makes it all the more impressive that tiny Bosaso is able to compete with Berbera in livestock exports or in any field. Berbera is 6 times larger than Bosaso.

it’s not really Bosaso competing but the decision of rest of Somalia to export their livestock through Bosaso to Middle East. Majority of the livestock that goes through Bosaso does not originate in Puntland

The majority of the livestock exported from Berbera and Bosaso is not from either region. Bosaso has an advantage in that it is closer to the rest of Somalia than Berbera, but Berbera has a bigger advantage in that it has Ethiopia as a hinterland. Berbera's dominance over livestock export and general trade in the Somali Region will be significantly challenged by a completed Garacad port, especially considering that Ethiopia is building a paved road from Kebri Dahar to Wardheer as we speak. If things go the way I think they will go, Berbera will become a port Ethiopia uses as a stick against price hikes by Djibouti. Somalia north of Beledweyne and the Somali Region will be served by Bosaso and Garacad in the next decade.

A video I found from today showing the number of ships waiting to anchor at Bosaso port, begin at 2:07. It is not a failing port by any stretch.

Comparing just the number of ships is meaningless. It equates small ships designed to handle dry cargo with massive container ships; docking ships vary greatly in tonnage or cargo-carrying capacity and yet both ships would appear as (1) on records.

Berbera is able to handle Post-Panamax ships, these are some of the largest modern container and passenger ships in the world, an entirely different league from Bosaso.

It is certainly possible to compare the activity of both ports, the docking records are available online. Looking at both Berbera and Bosaso, activity in Berbera is constant, whilst Bosaso can go days without seeing a new ship:

Bosaso port's activity:

Screen Shot 2020-10-09 at 09.11.45.png

For the period 29/09 - 09/10, Bosaso port was only active for the three days of 30/09, 03/10 and 07/10. The activity is quite sporadic and limited. The majority of entries belong to RAS SYAN which is a tugboat and not a ship.

Berbera port's activity for the same period:

Screen Shot 2020-10-09 at 09.14.46.png

Levels of activity at Berbera are on an entirely different scale. The port is working every single week day, and unlike Bosaso, the majority of entries are cargo ships and not tugboats.

To get an even better idea of the real port activity for both ports, one has to also look at the size of ships arriving, not just the number of ships. To compare the difference in tonnage activity, all you have to do is calculate the tonnage of arriving/departing ships for a specific period, filtered so that you avoid double-counting:

Total tonnage of vessels at Bosaso between 29/09 and 09/10 = 29,517 Tons (DWT)
(Total tonnage of vessels Sarah F, African Sun and Jaohar Ranim, link).

Total tonnage of vessels at Berbera between 29/09 and 09/10 = 191,020 Tons (DWT)
(Total tonnage of vessels True Faith, Okee Ortolan Delta, Iris of Sea, Glamor, Mwafak, Albaraka 5, GFS Pride, MSC Alice, BAMEDHAF, Okee August, AT Bright Star, Trust 1, link)

We are talking about Berbera currently having roughly 7X the activity of Bosaso.

And this is even before completion of expansion work at Berbera which will 3X its capacity from the current 150,000 TEUs to close to 500,000 TEUs, there is just no comparison.

Bosaso has no further room to expand, the port is limited severely by remoteness, geography and lack of population to serve. Its clear that its best days are behind it which explains why P&O continue to refuse any meaningful investment in the port to the point where Puntland's president requested a tugboat from Djibouti and not P&O. And once a dry port similar to the one being constructed in Gambadhe is initiated in Sanaag, and its ports like Maydh are rehabilitated, Bosaso will lose more business as Sool and Sanaag get completely captured by Berbera.

Berbera on the other hand is just getting started, hard to believe, but its true. Currently less than 10% of Ethiopian activity is observed, very soon this number will go up to 30%. At which point economies of scale and efficiencies will drive even more business through Berbera once the freezone is completed.

It makes no sense to estimate the activity of a port from the dwt of the ships that dock there. It makes even less sense to estimate the yearly activity of two ports from a 10 day snapshot of their activities.

Not even worth a response.

Its natural that you have no response, hard numbers are difficult to argue against.

Please refrain from putting Berbera and the small port of Bosaso in the same sentence going forward.

How high is the penalty for breaking the contract. Surely we can bring togheter a few million dollars.

Or use geopolitical strings to our advantage. Like letting China upgrade bosaso, give china a little sum sum and let the chinese terminate the contract on our behalf
