I was reading from an article that said most of African immigrants in USA did not identify as Black during the census.

Most census have an African category with an option to write specific country.

We are obviously related to our neighbours but I don't see the attachment that some Somali youth today have with connecting with their fellow "cushites". Do you see all semites trying to connect based on a shared language family. Afar and Oromos have nothing to do with us and in many historical cases actively fought against us. Also they are ok with their current situations.

It's puzzling how the Arabs managed to largely arabise the berbers when they conquered North Africa, but they failed to arabise the Iranian peoples when they conquered Sassanian Iran.

It's because they were used to being conquered since it has happened so many times. Which is why I find it strange that some people on this site try to attach themselves to these people. . At least black Africans (that many on this site seem to look down on) still have their lands, identity, and culture.

Black Africans have been heavily influenced by their European conquerors. For example, many Madows now speak either French &/or English as their first language, especially in West Africa & South Africa. Whereas, native Madow languages are dying out & Western culture is also taking over.

In North Africa, there as has been a Berber renaissance to revive the native Berber culture & languages, especially in Morroco. The Berber Tuaregs are also fighting for their freedom from the french lap dog Madows in Mali.
