He literally spends half of his year in NFD and Ogaden training. He also has an organisation (google Mudane team) that trains young Somalis to become Olympic level athletes. A lot of the diaspora you see that have got Olympic success came through that programme.

Back in 90s alot of family gave their children to relatives or even strangers so they could take them to the west and live better life it was very common thing to do..and lots of these kids faced abuse and neglect..I personally know couple of girls who were physically and sexually abused ...there is even one somali family who had little somali bantu girl come with them and basically treated her like slave until she run way from them...so his story is very common in somali community but he may exaggerated with kidnapped thing for the sake of the show other then that I am not sure why some people would make fun of it .
